Beared witness...
Let me start of by saying thieves totally suck *** (as if you didn't already know)... Now for the story and then a little tech! This morning @ the butt-crack of dawn (6:00 am pst) after hitting the snooze button about 5 times or so I was awoken to the sound of breaking glass. I live in the second story of an apartment building that overlooks a side street so this happened right under my window... The breaking glass was immediately followed by this car's alarm (which happens to be a silver civic coupe). I jumped up and poked my head through my blinds to see some dickless piece of **** leaning into this car trying to jack the stereo. At this point two things went through my head, grab something, run my butt-white *** downstairs in nothin' but my drawers and beat the holy livin' **** out of this guy or beat on my window and shout profanities @ him. In retrospect I'm glad I chose the latter... After a failed attempt to distract him by pounding on my window (due to the fact the alarm was going off and I don't think he could hear me), I opened the window and proceeded to shout the following and I quote "Hey buddy, what the **** do you think you're doing?!". He pulled himself out of the car, looked around a little trying to figure out who was yelling and then took the hell off running. The owner of the car lives in the apartment complex directly across from me and came down to turn the alarm off. I poked my head back up to the window and let him know that someone just broke into his car and he came over to investigate. I threw some clothes on and went downstairs and talked to him and his girlfriend and explained what I had seen. Fortunately, I scared the guy off before he had a chance to jack this poor guy's stereo, but he still has a broken window...
Now for the tech! A few months back on this same street my poor hatch was broken into and someone stole my stereo. Shortly after that I came up with an idea to help deter thieves from breaking into cars for stereos. We all know that if someone really wants something there is little that can be done to really stop them from taking it but every little thing helps. So I had the thought that detachable face "security" isn't secure enough for me, because people still know that you have something decent if you are taking the time to take off the face. I was dumb enough to take the face off and just throw it in the glove box, so when they jacked mine they got the face to. I said to myself, "self", wouldn't it be cool if after you took the face off of your stereo you just threw on a false stock cassette face to mask your real stereo. So I brought this idea up to my friend, who also thought it was pretty clever and a week later he called me up and said he had cut the face off of his stock deck and made one. He let me borrow it to try it over my deck and it's awesome... sits totally flush and looks stock and the buttons even work still... So that's it! Hope I planted a seed for all you music lovers out there looking for that extra little security... I would post pictures but I'm retarded...

Yeah that way your friend in the apartment could get some money from that broken window. And the look on the bums face when you smear his face into the asphalt. Then punch his *** and make a citizens arrest just like WyteNyteGSR
said . But anyways great work on saving that guys radio.

or better yet instead of buying that expensive head unit. you use your oem cassette radio with cd changer option and keep all the music you want on the cd's and bolt it under your seat. you have the oem cassette radio in the dash which no stupid thief will dare want to steal, (plus if your smart it will be bolted to the center brace and cant be removed) yet you have your cd changer which they will have to take the seat off to remove. if you want more power from the head unit get an amp.

Very original...nice...
So how do you make it stay in place while the aftermarket faceplate is disconnected? Pictures would be great. Thanks.

I will get some pics tomorrow if someone would be willing to host them for me... It stays in place with a couple little foam rubber pads on the edges.

Yeah, I'm sure they aren't just gonna move on to the next car that has the nice stereo in it that the idiot owner didn't take the detachable face off of... Especially since we all know stereo thieves specifically target hondas for nice stereos... to haters.

I don't know about HT thieves.
But my old crx was broken into and they attempted to steal my piece of garbage jvc TAPE deck that came with the car.
Needless to say they broke the deck completely and they only took the face. Who just steals a face? Honestly.

Re: Beared witness... (thehatchninja)
thats cool... i had a similar deterent in my old hatch (EK)
I installed my cd deck behind the cupholder thingy and left my stock tape player uptop.. so when ever i left my car i just popped up the cupholder lid and it hid my cd player and you could only see my stock tape deck up top..
