Battle of the Rattle. 99-00 Si owners ??
Hey whats up. I am doing a little rattle reduction. I have got it down to two areas. One is coming from the climate control area. I am gonna get in there tommorrow and try to find it. The other is coming from the back passenger side. It is a creaking noise that only happens when I go over bumps or turning. Any ideas on where to check or what it might be? Thanks.
Since I can only post 5 posts a day , I just edit this with my response. Bagel Williams, I live just west of Oklahoma City.
Two of the big rattle in the rear deck are coming from:
1. The two metal pieces that connect the rear seat release mechanisms to the key latch. I taped the end by the key latch on both of them (one for the left seat and one for the right). It surprised me but they make alot of noise.
2. The actually seat release mechanism was rattling on mine. Just take out the two bolt and bend the latch up. Then stuff some foam under and it will stop. I also dynamatted the rear deck.
I am going to try the wd-40 on the rear suspension to see if I can stop the creaking. As for the climate control, if I figure out anything that works, Ill post it here.

My Si does the same thing. I think all 96-00 coupes rattle.
It comes from the rear parcel shelf. I know of people taking the shelf out and putting foam or dynamat under the plastic and it's suppose to stop creaking. I haven't gotten around to doing it yet.
The rear suspension also creaks but you should be able to spray some wd-40 on the suspension mounts to stop that.
I don't know about the climate control. I haven't had that problem yet. Good luck!!

List of Rattles Most Common:
1. Your Cat.....Get a new one, (carsound) or a test-pipe, and the header to boot. Full jdm 2.5inch setup cured that rattle
2. Your rear deck. Just how bad does it rattle? Take out the rear seats, and drive around for an hour....holy crap. There is a honda fix-it that some people have had honda do for free, i dont know much about it though
3. Rear suspension, commonly cured with a rear strut-tower bar.
4. Your seat's make sound? That's another reason to toss them, they're boards.....though I'm selling mine, $200.00 get's it!
5. Shifter rattle, after short-throw install, another reason to get aftermarket exhaust, if not, bend the hanger or drop it.
