battery relocation
hey, i just got my hatch about a week ago(96 civic hatch). i am going to put a pretty good system in it eventually, somewhere around a peak of 1500 to 2000 watts. I have noticed that with the little pioneer 50w x 4 deck thats already in it, dims the lights when the bass hits, even with the car on. DO you guys know what size battery and alternater i should be looking for and where should i put the battery. All information and comments will be greatly appreciated.

for 2000watts you'll need an alternator that can supply at least 140amps for the system and add whatever other devices you have in the car... i'd say 150+ should be sufficient..
for the battery... i'd get an optima yellow top... i'm not sure if the 96 civic has reverse terminals but the 92-95 civics do... so check that out before buying the battery and make sure you get reverse terminals if your car requires it... regular will work fine but you might need to extend cables to make it work which is messy
the higher the CCA (cold cranking amps) the better the battery for starting... then you have deep cycle batteries which are good for audio systems... the optima yellow i suggested is a deep cycle and it's got good cranking amps... it's around $100 but well worth it.
also the bigger battery you can put the better..this way the battery will hold more charge.. i have the following and it works fine: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ZWD1V
for the system, make sure that 2000W are the RMS rating... if that's the max power, the system probably makes much less so you could probably get away with 100-150amps alternator
good luck!

Re: (civic_driver)
hey thanks, that battery sounds good. will that fit where the original one is or will i have to put it in the back or something? Yea the system i plan getting is a 2 channel rockford amp that is i think 1500w MAX and a 4 channel rf amp that is 1200w MAX. THats why i figured the peak to be around 1500 to 2000. the 2 channel for two twelves and the 4 channel for the 6x9s and 61/2's. i work at best buy so this will all be cheap. Oh, also do you think it will be neccessary to get a capacitor with the better alternator? Thanks again.

i'd spend the money on a higher carrying alternator instead of buying a cap
the battery will fit fine.. it's same as stock... just make sure you get the correct direction of the battery terminals... D51 is regular, and D51R is reverse...
