Default Battery light question

Before I go get the alternator checked I was wondering if and why a bad one would xause a surge in my idle. About a 1k jump every .75 sec. Also it stops surging and just idles high with ac off. This happened directly after a 3rd gear pull can u dog an alternator out?

Connections are clean and alternator is not loose

Yes, a bad alternator can cause surging.

Test the alternator.

Clean the IACV and FITV.

test alternator voltage at idle and under light throttle with a multimeter, if anything is suspicious then take it out and have it tested.
