Try disconnecting the 4pin connector from the alternator and see if the light comes on. If it doesn't, you'll want to get your alternator checked out.

if it does come on, could it be a faulty sensor?

Could be a short to ground in the wire to the alternator. I'll have to look in my Helms manual when I get home in a couple hours and see what exactly it says to do next.

Ok, checked my helms manual about troubleshooting that light being on.

If after you disconnect the 4pin connector from the alternator, the light is still ON, repair the short to ground in the White/Blue wire.

If after you disconnect the 4pin connector from the alternator, the light is still OFF, check the no. 12 or no. 24 fuse under the dash.

Check for battery voltage on the BLK/YEL on the 4pin connector.

Then it continues from there. If you really need the entire process, I could scan the pages and email it to you. Later.

Quick check; With the engine running and the batt light on, tap the alternator with a piece of broomstick or something simmilar. If the light goes out the alternator is bad.

if your car is running you should read about 14 volts not twelve. If twelve is all you are getting than you have a charging problem, probably your alternator. Take your car to any major auto parts store, and they can test it for you.
