Default Battery Acid on Engine Concerns (H22)

I'm looking at buying an H22 for my 92 cx, i have the money, just trying to find a decent deal. I found the following motor local (which is always a bonus), but as you will see it aint the prettiest.

The Story: Motor came out of a 97 SH that was hit on the passenger side i believe. During the collision the battery exploided sending acid all over the engine bay. It's an H22a4 w/ 70k on it. I was wondering what concerns i should have when looking to purchase the motor. Do you think acid on the motor could have any serious effects? Also, if i purchase it... what should be done to get her sparkling again. The motor has been covered ever since it was recovered so the rust you see is not from it sitting in the rain or anything, it is from the battery acid. And last but not least... what do you feel is a good price for it ( its a complete swap minus wiring harness and ecu). Thanks for looking.

when I Orderd mine from Osaka/JDM faze mine looked like that
it runs fine and the compression was top notch across the board! so everything is ok just look and make sure tubes and wiring harness is ok then repaint your valve cover.
oh I also put baking powder on mine for a day befor I put it in (Iwas told it would base out the acid and keep erosion to a min.) good luck!

I'd say that the acid may have weakened any wiring, hoses, and wire connectors that it came in contact with. I'd look it over carefully to see if the damage is just cosmetic, or if there are pieces that will need to be replaced. Then you can evaluate whether or not it's actually a good deal.

personally, I would never buy a motor that looked like that. It was hit hard enough to blow up the battery, just think about that.

But if it was hit in the passenger fender, right where the battery is... do you honestly think it would really take that much of an impact to cause it to leak acid?

dropping a battery is enough to make it leak

im thinking about it, but it sounds fine to me, maybe im missing something.

When I wrecked my car I broke a few sensors, and the drivers side mount
that screws to the block was stripped out. It was all fixable, but just a bunch
of dumb small stuff. Just look it over carefully, and you shouldnt have any
problems.

It must be reaal cheap. Depends on what matters to you. I don't know what would return the aluminum to a shiny finish, short of bead blasting everything, which would be unthinkable. Looks like the engine in my salt-exposed hatch. I personally hate corrosion, and can't wait to swap for a nice clean engine.

whatever u do just make sure you wear some protective gears... I hate to see you go blind or get some kind of lung disease from the battery acid. If its cheap go for it. what do you have to lose? If it doesnt work, part it out or rebuild it!

Man that battery ******* blew chunks everywhere. I would worry about it to much though. Just a bunch of cleaning and painting and youll be cool. How cheap can you get it for and does it include the alternator????
