bad valve cover gasket causing NO START???
Hey all,
My car is a swapped 95 del sol si with a JDM b16a Sir II (from an em1). It ran fine in september, except that it would take a few seconds of cranking before it would finally fire up... The cranking took progressively longer to start the engine, and now it has finally stopped working all together.
I know it is getting fuel because I just changed the filter today. I also just changed the dizzy in october (it has been shooting a TDC sensor code since day one, but it ran fine before I changed the dizzy too. I only changed it to get rid of the code, but I am thinking it might just be screwed up). So its getting spark and its getting fuel.
HOWEVER, the other day when I checked the #1 cylinder spark plug (farthest right), it was covered in oil. Do you think this could have been the cause of the problem? A bad spark plug grommet/washer/whatever under the valve cover? I bought a new valve cover gasket and all the little spark plug ones that come with it.
Do you think this could really be the problem that kept it from starting though??? oil in the #1 spark plug hole? it turns over fine until the battery runs dead from cranking, but i am pretty positive its not the starter or battery?
I also got new plugs and wires just to be safe. Anything else I should check out if this doesn't work???

Re: bad valve cover gasket causing NO START???
only one plug has oil on it..? it would run on three cylinders if one plug wouldn't fire so i don't think that's your problem.
you said you have fuel and spark, you also need compression (and timing) for it to start.
i suggest you take it to a qualified import mechanic and pay the $50 or so for a legit diagnosis. then if you want do the work yourself to fix it or have the shop fix it.
