Bad thermostat?

I have a 1993 civic d16z6, one of my heater hose burst near the thermostat housing causing it to overheat. Its the right hose going into the firewall, could a bad thermostat not open up fully and caused a bulge in the hose and explode?

Are you using tap water or 50:50 coolant in the cooling system?

Just checked my other hoses and the U shape hose going from the thermostat housing is slightly cracked also. Might just be factory hoses that need replacing
