Default Bad o2 sensors?

I have a 98 civic ex.
A while ago, it started to slip out of all gears after driving for about 10 minutes.
I assumed it was the transmission, then I looked it up and saw that it would more likely be due to the torque converter, and that the transmission wouldn't slip out of all gears. I took it to Aamco and they diagnosed it as a clogged catalytic converter. I researched into that and saw that it could tell my car to shut off the torque converter for its own safety. I hollowed out my cat and put on this nonfouler. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...720797_0_2826_
(it hardly fits, I just made it sort of sit in its place)

So I'm still having the issue, and I'm wondering, should I try a nonfouler that would fit? or is it a bigger issue? Thanks

How did it not fit when there's a link that says "Check the Fit"? Why did you not take it back? Doubtful at this point that it's the converter.

Do these things not throw codes?

And how is this related to bad O2 sensors?

I checked before I tried the fix, and I got a p0420, which gave me a solid reason to believe it was the cat. I also had a code for a bad o2 sensor but I think it was because I was limping my car with the cat disconnected at the time I checked. My cel came back on yesterday, but I haven't been able to check the codes since. I'm just assuming its due to the way I rigged the o2 sensor

Because the way my car is, my travel is hugely limited. I have a hard time finding rides anywhere, which is why I tried to make do with the non fouler I bought. My check engine light came back on after I tried the fix, but again, I've had no ride to get the code read. And from what I have read, my problems
Are probably caused by error on my part or a bad o2 sensor. I'll try to get a ride tonight though and get the right size nonfouler

UPDATE:
I just replaced the old nonfouler with ones that fit, and the problem is continuing. I'm out of ideas, any tips?
