Have springs with a 1.8 " drop in teh back and only want a 1.5".
Is cutting the spring a bad idea? I assume so but just curious if anyone has done this.

but

keep this in mind too..my girl has been riding on cut stocks for 5 years now....and suprisingly it still rides fine... everytime i want her to get real springs or coils she says why it still rides fine...

Cutting springs also weakens the structural integrity of them.

I cut my stock springs on my stock shocks, and road for 2 years like that.

Only problem i had was that my driver side shock went out pretty quick and so did my wear on that side because that was the first one cut and we did it wrong and learned on the other 3 that came out perfect. If you know what your doing its just like putting coil overs on stock shocks. (minus the raise ablility.)

Old hot roders will insist you can cut springs as long as you have the shocks to support it.

I would never cut springs, especially on an import. The whole car just will not sit right.

I had a 93 dx coupe..I cut the springs and rode fine...if not good...i drove like that for close to a year...Not 1 problem ever...Just when you jack up the car you have to make sure the spring it aligned when you drop the car.....

its surprising how many say its a bouncy ride after cutting springs. well i beg to differ, my friend cut 2 coils off neuspeed race springs all around on his 98 gsr and it rides like stock

sure there may be some good experiences ive heard of, but over all, cuttin is a baaaad idea. if u dont do it just right and measure evenly, then ur cars gonna be tilted and not drive right. Even if it does drive right, u never know if stock springs that had x number of coils can hold all the weight with less coils but no more reinforcement like aftermarket has

It depends on the springs... if they're progressive you can seriously F up their performance by cutting them... if they're linear it's not as bad...

Like mentioned above... if you have a shock/strut that's designed for that height and load it should be fine...

I wouldn't ever recomend it or do it... it's ghetto and pointless unless your ONLY goal is lowering the car....

ALSO it seems that you're trying to RAISE the car... not lower it... if the drop IS 1.8 now and you only want 1.5 then that would be lifting the car not dropping it... unless you mean you want another 1.5" drop on top of the 1.8.

Honda engineers spent lots of time on those springs. Don't hack them up.

If you really want to raise your car to be only a 1.5" drop from stock, I would sugesst keeping your springs and getting height adjustable shocks. If you havnt already installed higher performance shocks, you really need to with a 1.8" drop, or your stock shocks will get really messed up under that much preasure. If you think that the ride is a bit bumpy, or if you are bouncing after hitting a bump, then your shocks are allready messed up and need to be replaced. If you upgrade your shocks, you might as well spend the extra few dollars for ones that are height adjustable so that you can keep the springs you have now, and still adjust the height, and not f up your stock shocks.

A while back I helped my friend cut his springs. The ride wasn't to bad but it did throw off the allignment. When he would jack up the car it would sometimes pop off. I personally wouldn't recommend it. After doing this I would of suggest buying some coilover off of ebay.

cut springs rule.

the ride is ******* stupendous. smoothe glide + a slammed ride.

i have tein SS coilovers on my car. cut springs ride SO MUCH NICER.

circuitsi and i are the cut spring masters. don't listen to anyone else.

I have no probs on my cut springs.

Cut springs, shortened shocks, and shaved bump stops, damn thign rides like a caddy

ive never had bad experiences or heard of any from mym friends with cut springs... as long as its not SLAMMED, it will be fine...

i see no reason as to why cutting just one coil off your springs will do anything, go for it!

i said cut springs ride nicer. of course the teins will handle better.
