Default bad gas mileage?

i'm not sure why, but i only get around 200 mi on a full tank of gas. i have a stock d16z6, no mods whatsover. what could be the problem? i notice my o2 sensor is cut and there's electric tape around it.. and my idle is anywhere from 500-600rpm.. pretty low if u ask me. any ideas? the weird thing is.. at night, it idles perfect and runs perfect.. in the day time, it feels sluggish

Do a tune up on your motor, and im sure that cut o2 sensor is not helping any.

I'm also getting bad milage in my EH3. I had to get it fixed to pass emissions, and that included retarding the timing by 4 degrees, a new O2 sensor, and a new cat. Before that, I was getting at least 35mpg in mixed driving. I just did 230 miles of highway driving today, filled up and only got 28mpg. What's up with this?

I would look into that o2 sensor that could be causing your problems, I have a stcok d16z6 and Im getting 42mpg on a 10.5 gallon tank

Could be the o2 sensor, is it throwing a code? My CEL light was on when my o2 went bad. If it is bad, it will cause your mpg to go to ****. I got like 20 mpg in a vx.

You might try the tune up.
plugs, wires, dizzy, rotor buttom etc.

do you drive at 80-85mph?

I noticed I get considerably better gas mileage at 65-70 than I do at 80-85.. it's that noticeable.

My car gets about 29-30 mixed-driving but I have a screwed up TPS right now which is holding it down a bit.

Plus.. my car is a lil tired.. how many miles are on the car/motor?

this is true, one week I drove like 80-85 all week on the freeway and got shitty *** mileage. Doing 65-70 definately helps. I drive pretty much normal with 80% of my driving on the freeway and I get 310-340 miles to a tank in a 94 ex 4dr.....and when I fill up I only usually put in like 9-9.5 gallons even tho the tank is 11.9 gallons. I'm just scared I'm gonna run outta gas, lol....so I fill up earlier than I prolly could...

200 mpg
300 mpg
haha, you think mpg is something other than miles per gallon.
now if you have a one gallon fuel cell, then i apologise for being ignorant, but...
take miles you get from a tank divided by gallons in the tank....then you will get mpg...not mpt (miles per tank i guess)

as for mpg i get 30 even with an h22 in an eg with intake exhaust, and i've had that motor, and got about 40 mpg, so i'd say you are seriously getting something wrong. the o2 sensor would really only matter on the hwy, but maybe you can borrow an air / fuel gauge to see if you arent just for some dumb reason running rich all of the time.. i was until i got a vafc, now i run between 9 and 29% LEANER than stock to keep 14 to 1 (which is still rich) depending on throttle and rpm.

I bet you are just running really really rich.

I have a 98 4dr lx and when I bought it it was getting 18-20 mpg. At first I would get about 180 miles on a tank of gas filling up with 9.6 gallons. I had an oil change, and air filter replaced, and was getting a sloid 20-22mpg for a while. But I noticed that my car wouldn't hit OD, as I have auto. So, this spring I cleaned the TB, and put in some fuel injector cleaner ever oil change, I also changed the spark plugs and put in some double tipped titanium ones, the old ones were shot badly, hardly and tip ;eft on them. I replaced my ATF with some thinner winter oil, and now I hit OD sooner, and am getting 31mpg solid every week. I floor the gas every chance I get because I like being sucked back in my seat, but it only goes up to 32mpg if I drive sensibly. The car only has 37,000 miles on it, so I figured it should be getting better mileage. It just a little tlc, and you can get your mpg up into good numbers.
My old 91 hatch was getting 40mpg, so to see this one getting half as much was a dissapointment, but I have that all fixed now.
Good luck and put in that tlc and you will have a nice reliable engine for years.

might want to try checking your timing also, i believe by advancing it, you get better fuel economy. someone correct me if i'm wrong

Yeah, it might be the O2 sensor.

I get 35 mpg. Somewhere around 300 or so a tank.

I have a B16 with a lot of mods. I drive it mixed, half hard and half normal driver.
