Bad Flywheel Bearing?
Hello Honda-Tech,
I've got a '95 Si that's giving me some problems. I'll give you a little back-story quickly...
Car had a run-in with a rock today. Oil pan took a hit (1/8"-1/4" indent) but hasn't got any holes. What has me worried is the new whining noise I've got. I didn't notice it after hitting the rock, which seems to be because the noise is almost non-existent when the car is up to operating temperature.
Basically what I've got is a whining noise that moves up and down with the engine revs regardless of whether I've got the clutch in or not. Also doesn't make a difference if the car is moving or stationary.
I've got no idea why taking a rock to the pan would **** with my flywheel bearing. Is it possible that my alternator could have taken some dust or something?
cliff notes
- Whining noise coming from the 'engine'
- The pitch of the noise goes up and down with the engine revs
- The noise is the same regardless of clutch in/out
- The noise goes almost completely away as the car warms up
- Hit a rock earlier and made a minor dent in the oil pan
