Re: Bad distributer????? (si_motor_spt)
symptoms of a bad distributor...
lagging, misfiring, feels sluggish, wont start, rough start.
here are a few things you might want to check since your car does not start,
fuel, air, spark, grounds, battery, timing.
check for fueling: main relay, fuel pressure, another way... take off fuel rail with injectors still plugged in put a towel underneath crank the car a couple of times; towel should be a little damp with fuel.
check for air... nothing obstructing airflow
check for spark: [/b]take a spark plug, plug it into one of the spark wires, have a buddy crank the car while you have the spark plug next to a ground (you should see strong spark. if you get weak/ no spark then it maybe your distributor
check grounds: make sure the 3 main grounds (tranny, starter, valve cover) do not have any major corrosion and are connected.
check battery/alternator: voltmeter. should read 13v for healthy battery. if your car starts, unplug neg. terminal on battery, if it dies then alt. is bad.
check timing: remove valve cover and while your crank is at TDC your cam(s) should also be at TDC.
good luck.
