Default bad 02=intermittent severe hesitation?

Basically what I am wondering is would a bad 02 cause a car to have severe intermittent hesitation. I mean, the car falls flat on it's face out of the blue for about a second or so, then it's back up to normal. and It will only do this when the engine is good and warmed up, I do have a CEL which I haven't checked, but I am pretty sure that the 02 is bad (it's hacked up, the wires have 2 diff splices which have speaker wire in btwn them). I know a bad one can cause some hesitation, but never heard of it this bad.

Btw as the name states it's a D16Z6

Thanks for the help

First things first, check the CEL. You can guess all you want... but it won't do any good untill you know for sure.

My bad o2 caused a bit of hesitation in the low-end every once in a while... but not really alot. There are a few different things that can go bad in an o2 (mine specifically was the o2 heater).. so check the cell and see exactly what it is.

I've heard in-general a bad o2 can cause the car to run rich...? I have no idea if that's fact or fiction, but just thought I'd add that.

This is hilarious...

...and it's probably the problem.

Yeah, I didn't doubt that it would be part of the problem, the biggest thing I was wondering is whether it would make that MUCH of a problem.

I'll be checking the CEL this wknd as well as a few other things (DEPO fogs w/DRL, CV boots, etc...). So I guess we'll see what happens, I have the FSM, so I'll do the 02 testing to see if the 02 sensor is bad, if not then I'll do a proper wiring job.

yes it can. fix the wiring (with solder if possible) before you buy a new sensor.
