Default BACKFIRE! BLACK SMOKE! PLEASE HELP MY COUPE!

So i was in my local town, and i raced this orange ford probe, smoked him with my D16Z6 by over 2 car lengths. But i have an ecu chip to let me rev over rev limiter, so i accidentally reved it to 8G's, i heard it like stop so i quickly shifted to third and beta him and slowed down to find out what happened, the guy who flagged the race said a huge puff of black smoke came out my exhaust.

I have had black smoke come out for a bit, not noticable but the rear of my car will get black slowly with a bunch of black dots that i can wipe off, like sut in a chimney.

Well my car still runs fine, all its got is chikara headers, apexi gt-spec exhaust, aem short ram, ecu chip.....its VTEC too. anyone know what the problem can be?

I think the black smoke un-noticably comes out when i rev it higher, but i over reved and it backfired a nice puff of it, so maybe a gasket or something?

please help soon, thanks alot

BTW you guys are the greatest. Later

Lots of black smoke, and "soot" on your rear bumper is from running really rich. I will assume that your 'ecu chip' is just dumping too much fuel. I bet your gas mileage is bad also.. (bad compared to stock at any rate)

If the car runs fine, forget about it.. I beat on the rev limiter on my car every other day and no problems.. The over-reving that destorys your **** is really a mechanical over rev..as would happen if you shifted from redline in 3rd into 2nd gear. Just for example using made up numbers, say 3rd gear at 8000 rpm is 100mph, you shift to 2nd gear.. well 2nd gear at 100mph would have to force your motor to spin 10,500rpm I'm sure you can guess what can happen then.

Mine lets out a small flame "puff" when i backfire every once in a while, the best is slowing down in like 3rd gear and letting it backfire all the way till i stop, it just puffs flames a couple times, that could be a bad thing though

there is no point of ever going beyond 7k unless your car has been tuned and you know there is power there

stock rev limit varies but it is between 6750 and 7200 for most d series - you should never need to exceed this

If your spitting smoke either your cat has failed, your rings are bad or your valve seals are shot

do a leakdown test and figure it out

if the the probe was so ricey why do you even feel challenged to race him anyway when deep sixing your motor might be the cost of that
