Default Backfire on B16a6 (EK)

I have an annoying issue with my car.

It backfires and cuts out. The issues is the the problem is intermittent, and therefore troubleshooting is a pain in the backside. Thus far i have changed
leads
complete dissy
fuel filter
fuel injectors

I have no CEL, so this also makes isolating the issue difficult.

I have checked all the grounds, and they seem to be fine. I have removed my HID's and fitted halogen bulbs, as well.

After every changed, the problem goes away for a week or so, but inevitably returns.
Can anybody offer some input as to what it may be?

by "leads" do you mean spark plug wires? I had a similar problem with my b16 a long time ago, it would only do it occasionally. Turned out to be spark plug wires.

Also on that same motor, I had a problem with it just suddenly cutting out, that turned out to be on the of the little injector filters had popped off the top of the injector and mushed itself into the fuel rail. That was a diagnostic nightmare, lol.

Have you done a compression test? Are there any commonalities before it cuts off, such as overheating, a specific RPM range or speed, or recent braking/accelerating?

No compression test yet
it's is completely unpredicatable. I have tried to confirm temp, fuel level, throttle input, hot day, cold day
it just happens.

The car will be perfectly fine for a few days, and go like stink, then out of teh blue it will loose spark...

I had a bad ECU one time and it would randomly do this as well. Until one day it eventually went all the way out and threw about 20 CEL codes. Maybe you can swap one from a friend for a day or two?

Today the car just died on me.
It would swing for very long and then take, issue for a few seconds and die again.
My mechanic confirmed that when I swings it's because there is no spark. Then the sparks returns and goes away again. We cannot figure out what is cause those loss in spark....

We removed the ecu, and someone check it. He confirmed there was a spike while testing with the olioscope (spelling). But he said it is not consitent and therefore he cannot confrm that the ecu is faulty.
We then plugged the ecu back in, and now the car starts, idles and does not cut out.
This is really becoming frustrating now, as I dont knwo what else to do to test / troubleshoot....

The ECU problem isn't consistent. Your car cutting out isn't consistent. Sounds like a match made in heaven. Replace the ECU.

I will try to source another ecu then. Thanks for your input
