b20vtec overheating
 

Does anyone know why my b20vtec is overheating? i just recently swapped it in and it keeps overheating. does anyone know why its doing that?

are your fans comming on, do you know if the thermostat is any good?

the thermostat would be something very easy to change, and should of been done at the end of your swap.

yeah the fans are comin on and i change the thermastat also. but it keeps overheating. when i drain the coolant and refill it its like air bubbles keep comin out.

You answered your own question. It is overheating because there is air in the system. Get all the air bubbles out and the problem should go away.

yeah but everytime i drain it and refill it it does the same thing over and over again. and when i gas my car it the throttle doesnt catch. it lags. whats that problem?

what kinda head are you using. some have a coolant drain on the water neck (gsr) located on passenger side. you can use it to get rid of the air it the hoses. or you can do it other ways.


or it could be a blown headgasket. remember just because there is no oil in the water or vise versa doesn't mean that it is not blown.

so should i just check the head gasket? if thats not the problem what else can it be?

when you fill your radiator with coolant, do you burp the air out?

they'res a 12MM breather bolt on the water inlet neck.

crack this open, and let the air come out, then yoru idle should calm down, and all your problems should be solved.

Sounds like there might be coolant in your heater core.

Step 1:
Turn the temp in the car to hot, but don't turn blower on.

Step 2:
Take radiator cap off and fill with coolant water mixture

Step 3:
Start engine and let idle (w/radiator cap OFF)

Step 5:
Add coolant/water as necessary

Step 6:
Let car idle until radiator fan turns on (check temp gauge regularly)

Step 7:
Install radiator cap again/Test drive

also double check to see if the coolant lines are installed the right way

a lot of times that is the cause of overheating, when you've just performed a swap
