Icon5 B20v help

I was wondering what is this part circled in blue called? And would I need to replace this with a vtec one since I’m going b20v? Or can I keep the stock b20 one? I was told I need to change it.

Honda calls it an oil strainer, but it is commonly referred too as an oil pick up. Unless it is damaged there really isn't a reason to replace it. For example the the oil pick up from a 99-00 civic si b16a2, is the same pickup that came in the crvs with b20s, so there isn't a benefit to replacing it with one from a vtec engine, since they are the same. I believe the gsr one is different and possibly the type r/itr one, when compared to the b16, b18 (non vtec) & b20, but they also use different part numbers for the oil pan.

The GSR/ITR oil strainer/pick-up IS different because of the main girdle found in those blocks. This makes the install height shorter when you account for the thickness of the girdle instead of the bare main caps found on the B16/B18/B20 blocks. IF the OP intends to add a main girdle, then you will need the GSR oil strainer... otherwise, the one you have works just fine.

That is where I was drawing a blank/wasn't sure. lol

But that is good information to keep in mind for the future. I knew they were different for a reason, just didn't know the exact reason.
