B20 Vtec question?
I just recently bought a 94 EJ1 with a B20 Vtec in it for $1200. After replacing the head gasket, distributor and a few other things I have got the car running. The set up I 'm running right now is
B20Z2 Block
99-2000 B16 Head
ITR cams " these were in the car"
GSR tranny
p28 Stock computer and A61 programmed.
The car feels really smooth but the Vtec feels like it is not engaging....My question is with the set up I'm running is the vtec not as noticeable as I would have expected? I'm new to the B20 world I only owned b16 blocks. Is it that I'm expecting the same kind of engagement like I would in a b16 block? Also I have no check engine codes. If anyone has any insight please do fill me in. Thanks in advance.

Re: B20 Vtec question?
The Vtec should be very noticeable, at least at WOT. In addition to all wires being hooked up correctly and all parts functioning properly, Vtec needs:
Oil pressure
Engine speed signal (RPM)
Vehicle speed signal (MPH)
TPS signal
MAP sensor signal
Coolant temp signal
There are quite a few checks you can perform. I'd reccomend getting a maintenance manual. The Haynes manual 42025 will cover both the top and bottom of your motor.
