b20 vtec problem part 2
okie guys. i got my motor in and running.. today i was driving and i notice i had a oil leak somewhere but i can't see where it is coming from, my oil light was flashing so i went to check my oil and it was FREAKN milky. i got water mixed with my oil. another thing is i notice that i got coolant leak all around where the block and head meets. when the motor was drop in, i got my head redrill for the pins and i used a OEM HONDA B20 head gasket and use my b16 head bolt and tourqe it to liek 76 ft/lbs. i think. and i didn't get my block or head decked. so what could be my problems? any help will help me. right now it is to the point where i just want to toss my car away.... sorry for the loooong post guys.

Probably have better luck posting this in the tech forum... more tech talk goes on there......
I may be mistaken but I thought that once you put a b16 head on a b18/b20 block you needed to use b18c head bolts, to go with the change in deck height. I could be wrong but that may have something to do with it. When bolting the head down, did you step torque and bolt them down in a sequence? Often people just torque one bolt down, then the next and so on- and damage a gasket ( in this case your head gasket... could explain coolant leaking from block/head). If you have the tools to do a leakdown test I believe to determine if your headgasket is blown...... just a few ideas. Good luck.

yeah im thinkin either incorrect torque sequence ( which will also warp a head) and the fact you didnt have the head and block decked, or theres the strange ( and in this case unprobable) chance of a blown head gasket. the milky oil = coolant mixing into the oil, and the head gasket is obviously leaking oil... did you remember to put the head gasket in?? j/k, i dont know, man you might want to re-check your torque specs on the head bolts/studs, and make sure you are using the correct torque sequence. its a two-stepper in a criss-cross pattern from the inside, out to tighten. its gone over in the haynes manuals. good luck, hybrids can be a bitch.

Make sure you use a brand new head gasket.
Use B18c head bolts.
I'm not sure if the B20 blocks have an oil gallery to match the head...if not, make sure the hole on the head is blocked off.
While you have your engine taken apart again, drain all fluids and oil and make sure no more contaminants are in your motor.

Re: b20 vtec problem part 2 (civicguy)
i think that might be my problem also that i didn't use gsr head bolt. but yeah i did step tourqe my head down in a criss-cross pattern..and i also plug up the oil off the head so it won't leak out.. i'm think the oil leak if from the rear main seal where the tranny is because i just saw oil driping from where the tranny and block meet..thanks for your imput guys...

Yeah it sounds like you should be fine if you get the b18c head bolts. If i were you, i would give the motor a nice simple green bath, both inside and out before i put it back together. Good luck! How many miles did you put on the motor so far?

For the record, you CAN use SIR head bolts for any B-series Vtec application. I've used them in a million setups and work fine.
You should always use new head bolts if you are using OEM pieces.
