Default B20 question in a 95 del sol si (OBDI car OBD2 motor)

ok i did search this and did not come up with anything.. first off i am NOT going the CRVtec rout.. i am keeping it NON-vtec just so that is clear. my sol is a 95 (d16).. there for it is OBD1 (correct me if i am wrong)... and the CRV engine (B20) is OBDII (again correct me if i am wrong) i will be running an OBDI integra LS ecu.. my car being OBDI should plug right up.. but the engine being OBDII wiill have to be converted correct (again... correct me if i am wrong) so will i have to spend $200 on a pig tail just to convert the engine harness... or what? could i just run an OBDI integra harness to the B20 engine?? i am tryin to get all my facts straight and everything.. im tryin to do my research before i jump into a swap like this.. because i will be doing it myself. any information will be greatly appreciated!

You do not have to buy the obd2 to obd1 conversion harness, only if your car was obd2. The b20 will be obd2, if you can get the harness that came with the engine, then you should be able to plug it into your existing obd1 harness(the plugs will connect on the fenderwells) and have to do no wiring changes. If the engine doesnt have a harness on it, you will need to swap in your d16 fuel injectors, and repin the dist, for obd1. Then use the harness off of your stock engine, and put it on the b20. Try and get the harness that comes with the b20, it will be the least amount of trouble.

yes just like he said.. something that was told to me back when doing a 96 b18c1 obd2 motor into a 94 civic obd1 is that is it the ECU that makes it obd1 or obd2, if you get an obd1 ecu then it will run just like an obd1 motor if you have to get an obd2 ecu (which requires converting more ****) it will run like an obd2 motor.. good luck.. and think about going vtec later, crvtec is awesome..

Okay, most of this is correct, but not entirely. The crv harness does not plug in like a 92-95 civic, 93-97 del sol, and 94-00 integra at the strut towers. It plugs in under the battery at the ecu like a 96-00 civic. The easiest plan here is to get a wiring harness from a 96-00 integra LS, it will have the obd2 plugs for your distrubutor, alternator, and injectors, and it will plug directly into your del sol wiring harness. Add an LS ecu from a 92-93 integra LS, or a 94-95 integra, they have the same program, and you can usually get the 92-93 ecu for like $50. Add the wires for the knock sensor, BAM!, you're straight.

As far as mounting this beast, it's different. Get the lower mounts from an LS, tranny side and AC side. Rear bracket from a 94-00 integra. You'll have to replace the mount bracket that is between the timing belt with one from an integra also. It's $60 from honda, probably cheaper on the internet. Your upper tranny bracket will be the same.

I'm gonna do a full write up on my swap when it's done. My transmission is hung-up in customs right now, WHICH FUC*ING SUCKS! Good luck, us vtec to non-vtec guys gotta stick together.

I'm doing a similar swap, 99 B20Z into a 93 Civic Si. Just to get this straight...

- I need the wiring harness from an OBD2 Integra LS... but isn't that the same as the harness from my B20Z?

- I need the ECU from an OBD1 Integra LS... will that work with the OBD2 wiring harness?

- I was going to get an LS intake manifold (since the CR-V manifold won't fit under my hood)... so do I also need the fuel injectors and fuel rail with the LS intake manifold?

- Will I need OBD1 or OBD2 LS fuel injectors?

- Will the CR-V fuel rail work or do I need the fuel rail from an Integra LS?

you can reuse your original harnss, although you will have to repin the alternator and distributor. I believe the b20 fuel rail fits, I think I tried it once and it looked alright.

The wiring harness plugs up to your car, not to your ecu. The obd1 ls ecu will plug up in exactly the same place.

somewhat OT, but how different would it be if the b20 was to go into a 97 EK? Would I need to change my wiring if i were to use a LS or b20 ecu? Would a b20 ecu even work? Thanks

B20 ECU = no

for your EK just use your ORIGINAL ECU, Harness, AND Distributor (yes it works, looks funny, but works) no wiring changes needed (you will still be OBDII).

i just thought of the answer for my own question..the b20 ecu wont work because of the awd which will not work on a civic...correct?

EDIT: Would it be considered an upgrade to get an LS harness, ecu, and distributor or will it function the same?

Wait, D-series distributors can be used on B-series motors?
