Default b20 misfire problem

EDIT: new rotor, new wires, new spark plugs (gapped to .044)

i tried to figure it out tonight and it seems like cyl. 2 isnt firing causing the motor to run rough. all cyl. have spark and i switched the spark plugs from 1 and 2. same thing. if i unplug any cyl but 2 the motor wants to die. i unplug 2 and it just keeps running the same.

EDIT: well without much help from H-T i continued looking into this and have swapped the fuel injectors from cyl 1 and cyl 2. no change. even put the old wires back on. no change. reset ECU everytime i changed something and it always comes up with cyl 2 misfire. not only that but it flashes steadily while the car is running? i have never encountered that before. i am about to take it to a shop i am stumped.

check the firing order you may have mixed up the wiring when you were installing it.

check the sequence on the distributor then match it to the right plug on the motor.

So you tried pulling the spark plug wires with the car running and found that Cylinder 2 has no change in idle? Is this what you are stating?

Sounds to me like you have a dead cylinder...Try running a compression test and a leak down test and see what becomes of that cylinder.

we are taking it to the shop tom. what would cause a dead cyl?

EDIT: i just searched and turns out there is a problem with crv valves receeding into the head. i read something about a TSB, that involved a new cyl head from honda for free besides labor. anyone have more info on this?

Have you tried to ark the spark plug on number two onto ground so you can for sure know if its sparking?

well there is a diffrence between a SPARK and a WEAK SPARK if you have too much resistance in the ignition system it wont run right. also do you have any after market cams? i've seen where a lobe on a bad cam that is flat and not allowing it to run right wich would cause a DEAD CYLINDER.

Yeah if you changed the injectors and still nothing check injector pulse width at the actual connector check voltage and compare to another one might be a bad connector, wire? or if thats of no help to rule out the cam pull the valve cover and check lift and compare to the rest of them that should rule out the cam.

could be that valves recessed....pretty common if valves haven't been adjusted every 15k miles or so.

Only way to know for sure is to check valve lash at the problem cylinder...compression and leakdown may show if the valve has been burnt. the flashing CEL is due to a catalyst damaging misfire

for the recessed valves there is. and if its regular maintenance then it is honda's fault as it was dealer maintained

it's only for 99-01 CR-V's....but we have covered others. If it's been dealer maintained, most likely Honda will cover parts and you will pay labor, which will be like 700-800 bucks....the new head and other parts is well over 1800
