b20 engine removal from 93 sedan: Can I hoist motor and tranny out the top?
didnt want to make a thread for this but i kinda need an answer..
about to pull the b20vtec out of my 93 sedan, everything is disconnected, cv shafts etc. question is it doesn't look like i can pull the motor and tranny out from the top (with a hoist).. i dont wanna resort to jackin the car up and dropping it out the bottom (sketchy as f*ck).. any tips i should know or something? car lift is occupied

Re: b20 swap
if i can get a b18 out of my ef with a hoist i'm sure you can do the same with your car lol. now i dunno what clearance differences are likely but in order to get the engine into the hatch i had to angle it so the trans went first and cleared under the crossmember, then i brought the driverside down. so i would suggest doing just the opposite of that for removal.

Re: b20 swap
sounds good, ill just bolt her up and wiggle 'er out.. think i'd need to take any brackets off? or i'll just start pulling it out and if anything seems to be in the way i can take it out then

Re: b20 swap
i removed the side trans bracket in its entirety off of the transmission. it was catching on **** if i recall. i also had the t-bracket off of the back but again that was for install and on your chassis for removal it may be fine where it's at. as you start pulling it out you'll see where problem areas might be.

I've been told that a B20 can't go in bolted to the tranny so I doubt it can come out with the tranny.
