B20 Block with a B16 head
I have a '96 4dr Civic and I am looking to do an engine swap. I want the car to still be driveable since it is my only means of transportation but i want it to be fast because my D series just isnt cutting it. I was looking at doing a B20 block with a B16 head. What would be some pros and cons of doing this swap. What do you guys think would be the best swap for my car? Thanks for your help.

WHAT YEAR 94? WITH THAT MODEL THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS BUT I HAVE DONE A COUPLE OF SEDAN SWAPS AND WHAT I HAVE FOUND TO BE THE BEST ALL AROUND SWAP IS THE 4DOOR GSR SWAP - HAS DECENT TORQUE - GOOD HP AND IT WOULD BE LIKE A NIGHT AND DAY DIFF. FROM YOUR SINGLE PLUS YOU SAID YOU HAVE A D16Z AND IF YOU GAT A OBD1 GSR YOU WOULDN'T HAVE TO CHANGE BUT THE MOTOR - AXLES - AND ECU - PROVIDED THE MOTOR STILL HAD THE HARNESS ATTACHED , YOU WILL ALSO HAVE TO CHANGE THE SHIFT LINKAGE , BUT THE SWAP WILL BOLT RIGHT IN WITH THE STOCK GSR MOUNTS AND YOU WILL NOT HAVE TO CHANGE OUT THE DASH HARNESS. YOU CAN FIND THIS SETUP COMPLETE FOR ABOUT $1,600- $2,000 IF YOU SHOP RIGHT , WITH DECENT MILEAGE AND CONDITION TRANS INCLUDED , AND YOU WOULD LOVE WOUR NEW WHIP .... AND I DON'T EVEN LIKE V-TEC MOTORS BUT , SWAPING AN LS WOULD BE A WASTE ....
THERE IS SOME FOOD FOR THOUGHT

OH YEAH , BY THE WAY , YOU CAN GO LS V-TEC BUT IT WILL NOT BE ANYWHERE CLOSE TO AS RELIABLE AND WAY MORE EXPENSIVE IF THE MOTOR IS BUILT RIGHT --$3,000- $5,000 DEPENDING ON THE SETUP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You'll need the trans as well. And what's the difference between a 4-Door GSR swap and a 2-Door GSR swap?

Thanks for the info. Seems like the GSR might be the way to go. I have heard good things about that engine. Thanks again.

NOT THAT YOU HAVE ANY REAASON TO BE BASHING OR ANYTHING , BUT THERE IS NO DIFF. BETWEEN THE 2 MOTORS , YOU ARE CORRECT , IN THE 4DR AND THE 2 DR. HOWEVER THE 4 DR. MODEL IS NOT USALLY PERSUED BY THE YOUNGER CROWD BECAUSE OF IT'S SIZE AND USALLY TAKEN CARE OF BETTER SDUE THE TYPE OF DRIVER - HENSE BUYING A BETTER QUALITY MOTOR ,
BUT SINCE YOU WANT TO TALK SOME **** , IF WERE EVEN THINKING OF DOING A SWAP THEN YOU WOULD AUTOMATICALLY KNOW THAT NO D SERIES TRANS WILL MATE TO B SERIES BLOCK BUT , THEN AGAIN YOUR THE IDOIT TRYING TO SWAP OUT A 4 DOOR CIVIC , I FIGURED YOU WOULD HAVE AT LEAST UNDERSTOOD WHAT I MEANT IN THE POST- GUESS I SHOULD HAVE SPELLED IT OUT FOR YA

Do some research first. Search the archives on HT, there's some very knowledgable individuals on this board that share their experiences. Don't take one experience as the answer. LS or CR/VTEC motors can be extremely reliable, contrary to popular belief. Keep in mind, there is no "best" swap. You base your decision on what your goals are, availability, and most importantly, what you can afford.
