It depends on what kind of build your planning to do. Personally I would go b18b because they are a dime a dozen, they are cheap, and they can handle more rpm then a b20 in stock form.

i like this thread... anyways, i would go with B18b/b16tranny.
i hav a b20 with a b16 tranny in my civic, and it PULLS like crazy!! ...
I'd still prefer b18b.

i THINK, the more u build b20, the less gear u hav... like RPM wise. sumone quote this and re-word it so it makes sum more sense!

hopefully this will answer your question i have had both setups and both with b16 trans and both were in my h/b
my first swap was a ls with b16 trans i then went to the ls vtec i loved it i was taking out si's gsr's a few hype r's also the mustang and the camero crowd
i then rode with a friend who had a b20 vtec with gsr trans and the tq that he had was amazing you dident have to jump into the higher rpms to pass on the freeway
so i sold my lsvtec and bought a preassmbled b20vtec and another b16 trans with lsd and i loved it the pwr it had it was great mind you at the time i was only 18 yrs old so i havent really drivin anything that fast i then put the bottle on it and it was a beautiful thing but to make a long story short i got of teh bottle and went boosted and got a lillte to happy with boost and motor went bye bye
so i dont think i helped you but thats my exp with it

The same parts you find for the B18 will work on a B20! For the exception of the bore, they are the same motor.

Re: b20 or b18b. plan to vtec later, (ProJectCvic)
buy a b20. run a b18 head(for intake and exhaust and to run 404s and such). run an-r header and blox intake. crower 404s w/ your choice of race valvetrain. msd ignition. hondata tuning.
thats basically mine but I have decided to go and take mine from a 2.0 to 2.2 and have it sleeved.

I would go w/ a B20Z. It has the thicker sidewalls and can stand more power. The B20B is just a B18 bored out to 84mm and is less stable than both the B20Z and the B18. And there are plenty of mods for all of these motors as B-series parts swap in and out w/ no problem.

HUMMM...i didn't know that ...i might have to do some research on this when my finals are done. I seriously doubt this though. Thicker side wall...show me Anyone have inputs?

I've had experience with both.
The torque from the B20 is amazing. My buddy has a b20vtec.... his 5th gear feels like my 3rd gear!
Go w/ the B20.
