b18c5 build plans - gasket questions and suggestions please
first off, some of u may notice i hate the shift key....
on topic, i'm planning on this for my b18c5;
skunk2 stage 2 cams, valves, guides, retainers, springs
billet cam plugs
mugen metal head gasket, thermostat
i'm all about doing things right and not half assing it. in the end i want to build the motor to be very aggressive but handle it daily driven, and will have a 75 shot to be used MAYBE once a month.
i'm new to internals and building other than bolt ons so all suggestions are welcome.
thanks in advance.
EDIT: my goal is high 12/low 13 daily driven in my 99 hatch; then the juice to a mid 12.
if you reply with a part suggestion, please include a link to it if at all possible

75 is going to be dry into the intake @ WOT only. so realistically i'll only get about 65% of that 75 shot.

if you are goin to run ur compression above 11.5 make sure to mix some racing fuel in with ur pump gas like 5:1 ratio. http://www.jhpusa.com got a good price on spoon rods.

Cams are alright with spray, the only thing is a little more will be wasted no biggie. I'm going to be running 85-100 shot wet on stock bottom end with my motor. You should easily be able to pull low 13's N/A if the weight is right, especially with the 4.7 FD. My coupe should be 2100 lbs at the track and I'm looking for low 12's on a 100 shot w/ slicks after I'm tuned. How come all Skunk2 in the head? Personal preference?

well yes, and i've heard horror stories about crower... but mainly personal preference. they have a good name by me.
EDIT: thx for the input so far, lookin for a real in depth perspective if someone has one.

That's cool, I was just wondering I like Skunk as well. Have you looked at JUNII's? They are actually a big bigger than the III's on the intake cam (3 degrees longer duration). The exhaust cam is what is monsterous on the III's. These things do badass in B18C5/C-R's I've seen dynos of. But of course they are $$. BTW, right now I'm running a wet shot similiar to yours, but I spray more often no problems yet. Since you have a dry kit, are you gonna be safe and get injectors along w/ fuel pump and FPR?

yeh i noticed they are a bit pricey, plus i think stage 2 will be aggressive enough for me.
i forgot to mention i'm planning on a s2 ECU.
anyone recommend resleeving or pistons, etc? i'm not sure, but i think ITR internals are good enough for a starting platform, but all suggestions welcome. i'm looking for reliability w/ power which sometimes don't go hand in hand.

you plans looks promising... if im correct, you're rebuilding the whole motor right? you can just order the entire gasket kit from http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.org , they have the cylinder head gasket kit and cylinder block kit.
btw...get a fpr and guage, the cams will apreciate the extra fuel uptop...

With a 75 shot resleeving would be really cautious. There are quite a few B series guys who have or who are running 100+ shots on stock shortblocks. If you're paranoid then pistons would be the first step being that they're cast and all. But if you went that route you'd be better off doing stronger forged rods as well. A mildy or fully built shortblock would be a waste of money for just a 75 shot IMO.

Re: b18c5 build plans - gasket questions and suggestions please (DOHCtorTHRUST)
should i go with a metal head gasket since the compression will be higher?? last test we ran on it was 210 and 211 all the way across. is there a such thing as valve cover/plugs metal gaskets. what else can i do to keep it from erupting?

so leave the block alone and just put internals in and replace gaskets?

If I were in your shoes with ONLY the plans of that yes. If you wanted to go faster later on, do it right now. If I could go back, I would've replaced my rods/pistons, but I didn't have the intention of going this fast back then.

well i'll do the rods/pistons... someone recommended spoon rods, is there something comparible for less considering all you're paying for is the name. i don't know what the going average price is though. what pistons, etc? i'm all about doing it right now. this mod'ing thing is like a coke habit, u know how it goes.

Spoon JDM ITR pistons? I had those, I don't know of any other internals they produce, but not those, they are cast OEM P73-00's. Get something forged. Eagle rods, JE pistons (some people don't like JE). A reputable aftermarket company. Also while you're down there, get ARP rod bolts. Are you getting OEM bearings?

Do you have new ones? Don't reuse bearings.

if your going to stage 2 skunks or anything higher its probably a good idea to look into more fuel management and upgraded injectors/fuel pump.
stage 2 will be a tad too much for c5 stock compression. if you raise it thats another story.

I'm not sure where the 240 CC's peak, but if you wanna be safe and get some bigger ones. The DSM 450 CC's are cheap and easy to find. They require a resistor box being they are low peak/hold style. Or saturated RC injectors. If a GSR can make 203 WHP w/ JUNIII's on stock compression, I think his ITR motor can provide enough dynamic compression for S2S2's.

I don't know if you said this already, but are you going with an OEM 3 layer or down to a 2 layer headgasket? Give you a lil compression bump.

Re: (citrEK)
man im in the same shoes. Ive got a poor mans type r on a dry kit 75 shot and im stuck on what injectors to run i don't spray all the time. I found some rc 310 and 450 for a great deal but i think 450 all motor would be a little over kill im thinking more about the 310 .
