I have a Civic HB and was trying to figure out what type of motor I should drop in. What's the advantages and disavantages of the various motors. Is a Type R motor really worth the money? And is Hydro or cable a better transmission?
ps. I saw this site you guys might want to check it out. They got some cool shirts.

Re: B18C5 (pennies_hatchie)
I have a 96 ex with the b18c5 in it and I love it. The engine has so much power for having stock internals its just really fun. Also a small side benifit is when you show up somewhere and you pop your hood the b18c5 is right there on the block for everyone to see. I love the engine my only regret is that now I am going to do a turbo and I will soon be rebuilding internals so it might have been cheaper to go another route like ls vtec. If you are doing an all engine car then the b18c5 IMO is the best, but I am just addicted to the feel and the sound of a turbo so we'll see how it goes.

Click the link in my signature for a lot of pics and details on my B18C5 swap.
I tried to search B18C5 and got nothing.
I jus locked 2 H22A topics because the search yielded 3 pages of results, some of which are great topics.
So I'm not biased, but there's just no current B18C5 swap topics.

Re: B18C5 (euclid)
alright,..... then here is another question for you Tom.
i know that you have a million reasons why the R motor is the best bang for your buck.
but my question is this: what if i already have a LS motor in my hatch right now, but i want performance like the R. Would it be better if i sell the motor and come up with the money to buy an R or should I just slap a vtec head on that motor the RIGHT way. what do you think will be more cost effective? i already have skunk2 IM, ITR TB, DC 421 header.... so the extra parts the ITR comes with i have EXCEPT for the tranny and internals.
sorry for post whoring but this seems like a valid topic of discussion for this thread.

IMO you will never be able to beat an O.E Honda build, and the LS/VTEC motors aren't my cup of tea. I'm not trying to disrespect any of you running an LS/VTEC, but it is my opinion and that's what he asked for.
I would not feel as confident beating the **** out of an LS/VTEC like I have done and will continue to do to my B18C5. I take care of the engine, but in turn it takes care of me when I push it hard.
My only thing is that I'd either try to find a really clean JDM ITR motor from a very well respected importer in our industry, or I'd get a low-mileage 2000-2001 USDM swap.
My first choice would be the USDM B18C5.
Why?
Well first of all you'll know for cerrtain it's mileage.
Secondly it makes the install into the 1992-1995 Civic the easiest of engine swaps - period.
If you own a 1992 Civic, or any 1993-1995 VX, Ex, or Si Civic then a B18C5 swap will be a 100% totally plug and play swap if you use a re-chipped P28 ECU.
I could tell you that it plugs in, but why not SHOW you?
Here's an OBD1 engine harness with TWO plugs for the distributor:
So here's proof in pictures that I have a B18C5 swap in my 1992 CX while retaining the B18C5 engine harness complete with it's newer, better distributor, injectors, etc.
And the strut towers with the B18C5 engine harness PLUGGED right in:

Overall view:
I'll be back with more info later - I'm @ work right now so I have to run.

Re: B18C5 (B18C5-EH2)
As always Great Info Tom
If you want to go turbo, get a gsr. If you dont hav eenough $ then get a gsr. But if you have enough $ and want to go N/A, then the R is the best bet. Just my thoughts on the subject
