b18c1 won't start and idles badly - ECU problem.
I just got my 2000 GSR into my 2000 Hatch. I need help troubleshooting some issues.
My friend was helping me with the swap. We plugged the 2000 GSR ECU with the immobolizer removed in the car and it doesn't start. My friend who is a mechanic found out the fuel pump relay is not working. If he manually grounds the fuel pump though, it starts. HOWEVER, when it does start, it idle's funny, so he thinks something is up with the IACV.
We decide to take the SI ECU i had laying around, we got the SI ecu and plugged it in instead, it starts fine and idles fine. So what is up with the ECU, does anyone have an idea?
New engine didn't come with a throttle cable, we had to use the Civic's old throttle cable and it looks short, does anyone know how much I should be paying for a GSR throttle cable? THANKS everyone.

I'm running the same engine/setup in my 2000 EX.
Did you repin the fuel pump pins? On an OBD2b gsr swap into an OBD2b Civic with an OBD2b P72, the fuel pump pins are in a different location. You have to remove a pin from the ECU harness and move it one over to an empty slot.
Look at this diagram:
Check out pins A15 and A16. On Civics and Integras, one of those pins runs the fuel pump, but it's a different one depending on which car. For a GSR into a Civic, you'll have to move the wire from A16 to A15.
That's almost definitely why your fuel pump isn't working, assuming you've correctly removed the immobilizer.
The Civic throttle cable is short, and you'll have to use a GSR. I'm not sure what they cost, I got one free with my swap. However, you will probably find that the gsr cable is a little long. I ended up using a couple of zipties on the stopper behind the pedal to get a bit more adjustment out of it... before that, it was too loose, even when tightened to the max.
Check your fuel pump pins, fix if necessary, then see if it idles right.

Re: b18c1 running funny
DAMMIT hahaha, i already bought one yesterday and installed it this morning -____________________-
You're still awesome though and good in my book!!
ANYWAY, new problem I would like to get some help on.
1. I can't get the stupid white tab to open up so I can get the Fuel pump relay pin out on connector A, any advice would be appreciated.
2. I'm using the old exhaust manifold off my b16 because the cat already on my car doesn't have an opening for an o2 sensor, would I need to get a new primary and secondary o2 sensor for a GSR, or could I just reuse the two o2 sensors that are currently on the b16 exhaust manifold? When I do use the GSR ecu and manualy power the fuel pump, the car idles like crap...I think it might be o2 related...I'm not sure, you guys can chime in.
3. The plug for the GSR distributor is different than compared to the B16. I had to end up using the b16 distributor on the GSR so that the plug from the harness would fit, this is weird considering the harness is a 2000 Civic cx harness, it should have fit the 2000 GSR. The b16 was a 99, so I'm not sure if the previous guy messed with the connector or not.

Re: b18c1 running funny
Hondapartshero, I've seen that diagram before and tried it, but that method didn't seem to work. However, after your post and taking every detail into consideration, it worked!!
To vindicator, thanks for the help, my friend! The motor runs and idle's perfectly!!!!!!
HOWEVER, one last question. I still had to use Old distributor off the b16, is BAR going to be bothered by this? The harness is a 2000 Civic cx harness, which leaves me to believe since it did connect onto the b16 distributor, the distributor must be obd2b. I heard there's way to tell, anyone want to chime in, I'm gonna go research it real quick too.

Re: b18c1 running funny
Got the ecu with immobilizer removed but having a problem. So here's what happened.
1) Put the '00 GSR ecu in WITHOUT swapping A16 to A15: Car started up and then died after about 4 sec. => Tells me that GSR ecu is working fine but car not getting fuel since A16 pin swap not been done yet. Makes sense to me.
2) So I swapped A16 to A15: However, this time car will not start at all (keeps cranking only), with either GSR or Si ecu. Any idea why?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Re: b18c1 running funny
take a look at this website. i just did a swap and this was recomended by the doc in skunk2. help me out get rid of all my codes. my gsr was running funny after swap. turns out it was stuck injectors. i had misfire on 1-4. took injectors out hit them slightly with a screwdirver and switch the around the cylinders. worked fine. make sure all wiring at the ECU are correct. if it doesent start look for spark at the plugs and see if its getting fuel.
