if it is what he says it is, then that sounds average. ive never paid more than 300 for a good tranny(gsr/b16/b17)...now i would pay 400 for a low mileage perfect trans tho.

LS tranny's were stamped S80 also
The ITR tranny was another S80 all together, and yes had lsd, but it's a different tranny than the gsr

from what i understand from http://www.superhonda.com/forum/f5/b...-codes-218900/
... s80 is the tranny code for type R tranny with lsd, and integra Ls/gs/Rs without LSd... how do i figure out which one it is.. i want to know from looking at it if it has LSD or not

Re: b18c1 s80 tranny- am i getting ripped off? this seems like a great deal?
I'd like to make a few points:
- "S80" can be LS (crappy gearing), GS-R (decent gearing) or even ITR (best gearing and LSD) - the transmission code tells us NOTHING about what transmission it really is.
The only way to tell for sure is to split the casing and start counting teeth on the final drive, and gears themselves, and calculate the ratios.
- NEVER believe the "no grinds" as I'd bet you money it has a third gear grind
- NEVER believe the mileage being stated
Having said that it's hard to really put a value on a mystery transmission. If it's an LS tranny with grinding gears you're getting completely ripped off. If it's the GS-R as advertised, and has no grinds, then IMO it's a great deal.
Just something to keep in mind also:
*IF* you were to have any gear grinds then the cost can easily get out of hand. I recently priced some "rebuild parts" for a friend of mine and his ITR tranny - same basic parts as any other b series hydro tranny.
Begin paste from myself:
MT Clutch housing <--- clickable
#11 (shim - feeler guage/measure to get thickness and order accordingly) - $6.26
#16 - $28.07
#17x2 - $35.94 ea.
#18 - $66.02
#19 - $7.11
#20 - $4.67
#21 - $4.89
MT Countershaft <--- clickable
#11 - $7.10 - stake nut is optional, but sometimes if it's been reused more than once it might be torn where you stake it down
#13 - $23.60
#14 - $29.99
#15 - $15.35 (optional - usually not replaced, but you're **** like I am)
#16x2 - $15.62 (optional - usually not replaced, but you're **** like I am)
MT Mainshaft <--- clickable
#3 - $141.59 (this is the third gear I was talking about since yours grinds)
#9 - $186.30
#17 - $47.35
#18 - $15.88 (if you're being ****)
#19x2 - $15.88 ea. (if you're being ****)
MT Transmission housing - <---clickable
#16 - $8.36
#6 - $10.10 (again measure to get proper thickness as there are literally 41 shims to choose from)
So from the numbers I've listed I got a total of $595.89 before shipping. This is ASSUMING that no other synchro sleeves/sliders are damaged. If any of the teeth have hammered areas or burrs replace them. You can click the links to check prices on those too. Each one you add makes the cost rise exponentially as they are not cheap, especially if you get the gear with them.
/end paste

Also, don't forget, there are some jdm spec S80 out there too. The gsr with lsd, and the 98+ ITR with 4.7FD options

The GSR and ITR transmissions have 4.4FDs (unless it's a 98+ spec JDM R trans). So counting teeth on the ring gear only narrow it down so much. I have no clue why Honda did this. It's very frustrating lol. I sold my mint GSR trans for $485. So his price seems pretty decent. Around $400-500 is average, I'd say. Not too good to be true.

well i looked at the tranny today. first off, he was full of ****. i looked down the axle hole and there was a bar- no lsd so he lied bout that. it was spray painted silver to look newer, so im sure it had a **** ton of miles on it. it had a piece that was cracked off and you could see they glued it back on. one of the bolt holes was like f'd and it looked like they tried to fix it but it just looked like crap. the guy said he never took it over 5k, but then said he did burnouts fine. 30,000 miles? more like 130000... Its hard to find a good tranny nowadays.
Im thinking if i should get mine rebuilt, or buy a new one. What do you guys think?

Re: b18c1 s80 tranny- am i getting ripped off? this seems like a great deal?
My trans has 155k and its absolutely mint. I do burnouts all the time. The car sees 8700rpm everyday. I also sold a gsr trans with 115k that had absolutely no grinds. But I've seen transmissions with 30-70k miles that were wrecked.
Mileage isn't a huge factor. User error is. Some people can't drive. I also can't stand when people say that they never took their trans/engine over 5k. It's such a dumb lie. Who buys a sporty version of an engine/trans only to drive like grandma anyway? I think the lie stems from buyers that are WAY too concerned about dumb stuff without being educated at all.
When buying a car/engine/trans, it gives people the warm and fuzzies when you say b.s. like "I never rev past 3 and i change my oil every 50 miles with Mobil1".

I see what you're saying, but Craigslist is simply an interface used by all kinds of people, crooks included, to sell their stuff.
I have gotten some amazing, legit deals from Craigslist. I have gotten some not so amazing deals too. I bought a old Snapper riding mower for $200.00, and the guy was super nice, let me even cut some grass in his back yard with it, etc. Then after two good uses from it it started running like crap and the carb had to be rebuilt twice.
You as the buyer have to be educated, and extremely cautious when buying anything at all from Craigslist, or Ebay, or even car dealerships.
Yeah like I said never believe the mileage or "no grinds" when a person is selling a B tranny. I'm not the least bit surprised the seller was a shady moron. At least you had the sense to not but the trans anyways.
What's wrong with yours?
If you have the ability and tools to build yours then look at my pricing above to get an idea of what parts you're looking at.

i dont know enough about trannys to do it myself nor am i sure whats wrong with it, but i think i need some new synchros. it also just doesnt want to shift into gear at all while the car is running, or its very hard too- not sure what the cause of that is. The only way i could get it into first at stoplights was if i turned off the car, put it in first, and turned it back on..

Try bleeding your clutch hydraulic lines. make sure there aren't leaks in the master cyl, slave cyl, and lines.
also try adjusting the clutch engagement point. if its grabbing too low to the floor, you might have too much freeplay on the pedal. that would cause the clutch to never be disengaged.
or maybe u thought of all that before you decided to throw a trans at it?

I see your in, wa. Give speedfactory in tacoma a call.
The last time I was in they had a couple rebuilt transmissions. I think a gsr was like 700. A little high but, at least you'll get peace of mind.
