Default B18c Type R Swap > 1996 Civic EX

So I was looking into dropping the biggest motor I can in my car, but still maintain legality without a HUGE amount of extra parts/labor. I have spoken to a few buddies, and we eventually came up with this as a good choice for a swap kit for me:

http://www.bestofjdm.com/COMPLETE-PA.../jdmhonda8.htm

My question is, I live in california, will that be a legal engine to drop into my car?

I also currently have a ZC motor in there, it got swapped in at about the 2000 mile mark.

Where do you live in CA? Any swap in CA is illegal from a different chassis. You have to get it BARD. Meaning take it to a referee station and have them visually inspect and smog your car. Called this number 1-800-622-7733. Good luck.

That would be a nice swap and don't go any lower than a R. You can shop around shops within the states for better prices and reputability. Jdmenginecorp has their 96-97 ITR swaps for $3,500 and $3,800 for 98+. You have to match the year of your car and engine accordingly!

unless it's changed, all you need to do is swap in an obd2 motor the same year or newer. Swapping in a b18c5 that's 98+ and obd2 should be all you need to do to maintain legality. It's probably also critical that you have the paperwork for the engine at all times. Ensure that the codes/stamps on the swap are intact.

Thanks for the tip on how to get it properly BAR'd.

Ill check out that site, do their motors come with everything Ill need? Part of the reason that site is appealing is I get everything from the motor to the tranny to the ECU and even axles. Will I get the same from jdmenginecorp?

I dont need someone to install it, we can swap it in ourselves, and we have access to a lift as well as a cherrypicker.

Ill be sure to keep copies of any engine paperwork in the glove, thanks for the advice.

Why don't you give them a call? Not to be a dick but you need to do your own research. Find out what you need and don't need. BTW, if you had called the referee station, you wouldn't have to ask if the engine will come with the ecu. You will need a USDM P73.

Yes, they probably will give you the same but there are other factors you need to consider. Are they reputable? What guarantees or policies? Price wise? Just because what you see advertised is appealing to you doesn't mean it is the right choice.
