If you can restore the b18 then Id go with that, Id keep the b16 around and build it up for another project

depends really, what are the prices? have you done a leakdown or do atleast have compression results?
you can always use this with the b16b:http://inlinefour.com/spoon18lstro.html

it all depends on what you wan to do with it, Ive found that B18 parts are more readily available, especially the vtec head on a b16

i would got for the itr, i got a ctr just because the opportunity rose for extremely cheap and clean ($1400 full swap including lsd tranny) i was happy when i first got it cause its much better than a b16a but now i wanna stroke it to the 1.8 in which the itr already has

like I said before it all depends on the health of the two engines(do leakdown & comp tests) plus the price tag!
I too would go hunting for a shot gsr longblock to rebuild better than the two, thats if the motors you are talking about are at jdm importer rates!

All things considered, if you found a b16b for the same price as a b18c5, I would get the 16b and sell it to someone on h-t for a mint, then buy a gsr. From what I've seen, the 16b's tend to go for a few hundred more. How much are the engines?
I'm as much of a 1.8 nutswinger as anyone, but I almost think I'd trade my gsr for a b16b if someone was willing.

not necessarily a downgrade... 185HP vs 170, and a 10K rev limit would be nice.
I did say *almost* though.

Re: b18c(type r 96-97) or 00 b16b with some goodies. I cant make up my mind.
Eh so i bought the b16b for 3300. touch over 50k on the block. mild head work done to it with 2mm over size valves and 3 angle valve cut. I'm excited to hear it crack. All except for Auto adventure owe's me a new type r transmission case. ****ing Passenger side a bracket ****ing fell off when I bolted it up and let the tension off the hoist. So that was mildly frustrating, but what can you do? Anyone have a yws-3 case they might be looking to get rid of for a b16 hydro trans? Complete with starter and no grinds? I dont give a **** what i have to pay for a type r trans case. If anyone has one, i'm almost willing to give an arm and a leg for it.

Car weighs 1400lbs with motor in it. Car is for auto x and track days and occasional street use. I opted for b16b. b18c5 was too salty to want to **** with for a 3500$ price. b16 was super ****ing clean and in immaculate condition. So i bought that. The torque difference is minimal. Hondas are all about n/a and top end hp. So why do you need torque on the bottom end when you can do all that work really really fast on the top end in horsepower.

Since when does the appearance of a motor affect its performance? And if you're going to autocross your car, torque is your friend, not so much horsepower.

eh, and i rolled it around in my head. and we can argue this for days, but i bought the de stroked type r. or b16b. i could put an itr crank in it, and its all the same other than the cam profile for the b18c5. and i liked the b16b better.

I've had them both and guess what, the bigger motor makes more hp and torque
