B18b1 looking for a little power.
hey guys. getting an ls dropout for my eg hatch, and ive been looking around for some cheap easy mods. ive read that b series reapond decent to bolt ons, so obviously i/h/e. but are there any stock b series parts i can toss on it for a noticable gain? this is just going to be my dd for now, so im not really looking to boost yet, nor go ls/vtec. ive also heard that a 4-1 header is good for more a higer power band, (my grammer blows), but robs lowend. i was thinking that would be a decent mod since the ls has a bit of lowend torque. any criticism is appreciated due to the fact i am new to this b series thing.

Re: B18b1 looking for a little power.
been reading about trans swaps. ive heard the ls trans is a good mate to the ls motor since the ls has lowend. but there are other people who say diff. people say to b16 trans... but the ls makes no high end power. who has an ls, and who has played the tranny swap game?

i would go with 4-2-1 header. unless u plan to upgrade internals on the motor.
as far as tranny.....a gsr tranny would be good
it all depends on what you are willing to spend....and what you want to do in the future...boost or n/a.

i do understand how important a tune is on modded motors, but on strictly bolt ons?? ill research the itr manifold and seee what that brings up. anything else anyone??

vtec intake manifolds are not compatible with non-vtec engines. he could however get a skunk2 or some other similar aftermarket manifold designed for the ls/b20.

i read that i could make decent gains off of just chopping an ls intake and just porting that and rounding everythig off. basically just as good as skunk 2. anyone?

I too am debating on tranny. I plan to boost or supercharge later next year maybe. But im curious as to the b16 trans. Even with turbo I think a b16 trans would do good, cuz either tranny is gonna go up fast on revs with BOOST..LoL. Just depends on skills on shifting maybe. Ill see what I end up doing.

Also depends on your $ budget. You can also throw some stage 1 cams. If you dont want to upgrade valvetrain. Or go stage 2 and get valvetrain.
Im actually going for getting a b16 trans with a fidanza flywheel and stage 2 clutch. Maybe the light flywheel will maintain the 5th gear revs lower. Since there is less inertia on the wheel. I could be wrong though. And i rarely go on the freeway. And if i do i usually stay 65-70. No need to be over doing it on speed.
