Default b18b vs d16y8 in EK

Let me try posting this again. I have done all my searches and cannot find any info on what a y8 weighs and what a b18b weighs. This is very important in making a decision as to which I swap I should do in my 96 ek hb. I undersand the power gains of a b18b but are those power gains really worth the extra added weight? Every thread which I have checked out so far just talks about the power gains and nothing about a comparison of weight to power.

thank u in advance

I'm not sure what the difference in weight is but I can tell you that weight does not matter b/c you will make way more power with a B18 then you could ever make with a D16. Especially if you plan to go turbo.

yeh, dude dont really worry about the weight difference between the two motors, it really cant be more than 100-180 lbs. if that. like titan said that b18 is gonna make way more power than that d16 ever could.

I searched "engine weight" and after scanning a few threads it seems the D-series is approx 75 - 100 lbs lighter than a B-series. That is purely ballpark and not a personal quote by me.

I started to reply to your previous thread and you mentioned autox. If you are considering a swap, have you looked into what class you would move into and who your competition would be?

it would move me into mod class in sp which really makes no difference to me b/c I am not really competitive anyhow! my y7 has 255,000KM on it and is starting to have a knock in the morning so I figured why not get more power if I am already replacing the engine! FYI, I am usually 10-12 seconds off of the the fastest time of the day.

MAke sure if you Auto-X or "cone" race what teh SCCA says you will be in. I am thinking of going cone racing with my friends and my EJ8(EK coupe) is almost stock. But I have a B18B1 in and now i will be racing and trying to meet the times of the hardcore people.

I am now SM legal.

the better gearing and higher tourque production of the b18b will be more than enough to overcome the weight difference.

its true. The extra weight isnt noticable enough to stop doing this swap. Plus with the extra displacement you get that extra tq sometimes needed to pull out of a hole.
