B18b swap .. common or not?
I tried searching for B18b, and it seemed i couldn't find much about it, is the swap very common, or isn't it because its non-vtec? it has low compression so it sounds like it would go good with a TC or SC and if anyone is a LS swap, can you let me know alittle about it?

yes it is quite common. you have touched on all its essential points.
-cost
-availability
-great for boost
i myself was about to spring for the b18b swap, its only about $1000 in this neck of the woods. great platform, and others say that you will love the torque

it would be my first time swapping it and i was wondering if it would be fairly easy for a firstimer? and what ECU would I get optimum preformance out of it? and I was looking at it on hmotors, and it doesn't list the availability of a LSD tranny, could I use a b16 tranny with lsd?

about the tranny i know you can use all b series trannies on all b series engines so i'm sure it would work with the LSD tranny, but for your ECU? i'm not too sure on the b18b ECU's......... just my .02

and I was wondering, does the GSR head bolt right up to the LS or does it need machining? if so does anyone know about the cost of the machining?

I did this swap 2 weeks ago in my 93 CX. B18a1 from a 93 LS. Obd1 PR4 ECU was used.
The motor pulls nicely compared to the 92hp VX motor i had. Hoping to go to the track next week. Im using a GSR tranny and the gears come up really quick, cant imagine if i had a b16 tranny.
Research on the golden eagle ls vtec conversion kit.

For ECU... if the motor is newer than 97, switch to a p75 obd1 ecu. if its older than a 97, your good to go. You can use stock motor mounts, tranny, axles, everything. just need a lift and some friends. Drain your fluids!

now your talking about an ls/vtec engine. its not just as simple as bolting on a head. But there are a ton of threads on hybrid engines. I search would give you all the info you needed on a ls/vtec engine.

I ran a Ls in my last hatch. I definitly liked the torque. But it had no top end. Then again if it is just going to be a street car then you don't really need high speeds. So no need for a good top end, now is there. cheaper then a b16 and faster off the line. I reccomend it.

Re: (Ahrpr)
If you dont have alot of knowledge, I would first do the complete b18b swap. If your putting it into a '92-'95 civic, it is a complete bolt in affair. No wiring at all(if you have all the right parts).
Its a easy first swap and a strong motor(even with the non-vtec head).
The basic bolt ons like intake/header/exhaust will swap over if you decide to get a vtec head later on.
After you get the motor in and running, you can decide wich route you want to go(vtec, turbo, or both).

Re: (Slopoke)
is there any possible way of getting each of these together, everything needed for an LS swap, but still get a GSR tranny or would I have to get a complete change over, sell the LS tranny and then get a GSR tranny? because I want an LSD tranny.
