b18b into 94 hatch high idle and no bottom end power

i got a high idle checked timing and its right now, checked vacuum lines nothing there unless i have a line in a wrong position anyone have a diagram for vacuum lines? i think it may also be which ill have to check when i get home is idle control valve may be dirty or leak but i think if it had a leak coolent would leak. but confused one the no bottom end, checked the plugs to see if there faulled but were fine. changed fuel filter, air filter, still no bottom end power but once rpms rise got tons of power. put 91 octane thinking fuel was bad in the tank since car sat for about 6-7 weeks at 1/4 tanks. still no power. any other thoughts?

i changed injectors, cleaned and sealed idle control sensor, changed fuel filter, air filter, checked vacuum lines, checked to see if sensors were plugged in. still got high idle and no bottom end.

Regarding the low power, have you checked the timing with a timing gun? If so, was the service connector jumped during the procedure?

Is the CEL ON?

Regarding the high idle, check the function of the fast idle valve:

when i did timing i didnt do any jumper, where is this jumper your talking about? as for a cel light it does not come on. cool thanks for the thing on the high idle valve. Question on the cel light, will it come one or do i have to put the jumper for it to come on to see if i have a cel light?

The 2P service connector that you jump to check the ignition timing is the same one that you jump to retrieve CEL codes. It's located above the ECU and branches from the main wire harness.

Did a previous owner disable the CEL? When you turn the ignition key to ON(II), the CEL should illuminate for ~2 seconds and then turn OFF. If the CEL never lights, then check the dash CEL bulb and whether any wires in the gauge assembly or ECU connector have been cut.

its lights up when i turn the key then turns off. the car was stock when i got it. d15 auto now b18 manual

ok i finally got a round to testing the idle control valve, it has suction when its cold, i drove the car around the block for it to warm up. put my finger over the lower hole and theres still suction the idle does not drop when i put my finger over the whole

are you sue the car has a manual ecu?auto ecus idle really high.

Re: b18b into 94 hatch high idle and no bottom end power

ya i put in a new ecu its a p75

Re: b18b into 94 hatch high idle and no bottom end power

resetting ecu right now hopefully it will work

tacorunner87 01-18-2009 12:07 PM

Re: b18b into 94 hatch high idle and no bottom end power

reset the ecu dont notice any difference. i was wondering with stock exhaust pipe, an exhaust leak at the downpipe were it meets to the cat could that be creating my issue? exhaust leak not creating back pressure?

edit: still thinking im using the automatic gauge cluster don't think it would matter.

yeah my car idles really high also but only when its cold and once at operating temp it idles fine. didnt really look at fixing it but i would love to get rid of the high idle so what could it be?

i have an eg that had a high idle too. . . it idled at 2000--2200 rpms turns out that i somehow connected the wrong plug to the iacv, i plugged in the other plug that is similar and my car is fine now

you talking about the plug on the back of the intake manifold were 2 hoses are and the tps? or i have these other to that look almost the same but there on the other side of the engine one goes to the vacuum line and the other goes to the intake manifold

The FITV port should not be drawing air from the throttle body port when the engine is hot. Cleaning or replacing the FITV should solve the problem.

Re: b18b into 94 hatch high idle and no bottom end power

were do i get the parts to fix the FITV looks like o-rings in the picture. can i get them at autozone or do i have to go to the dealer?

tacorunner87 01-24-2009 02:09 PM

Re: b18b into 94 hatch high idle and no bottom end power

i called around today for the high idle valve everyone tells me its a special order. so im testing right now. i cleaned it with break cleaner. put a very thin coat of RTV on the o-rings, and a thin coat on the throttle body and gasket. to make sure it is not a air leak in there somewhere.

Re: b18b into 94 hatch high idle and no bottom end power

If your going to clean the fitv, take it all the way apart. remove the 2 screws and you'll see something that looks like a nipple with 2 notches on the sides, grab your flat head and unscrew it. You can take the spring off and dismantle it further but aim it down so the retainer doesn't shoot out and you lose it. then spray your brake cleaner through it and clean it.

if the problem is happening when its warm opposed to when its cold, then i would check your spark plug wires, the only reason i suggest this is because i went through the exact same thing, and replaced everything pretty much, o2, fuel filter, coil, cap, rotor, plugs, fitv and iacv (i have them both still) and i sea foamed. nothing worked. the wires were the last thing i tried and it fixed my problem. so yeah check that.

Re: b18b into 94 hatch high idle and no bottom end power

i cleaned it, ran it right now still didnt fix the issue. im going to have to special order the fast idle valve. see if that fixes the issue if not then ill have to keep trying things.

tacorunner87 01-29-2009 07:46 PM

Re: b18b into 94 hatch high idle and no bottom end power

replaced the fast idle valve with a new one from a dealer. Hard to tell if its still idling high i have an exhaust leak after the exhaust manifold down pipe so its loud. but still no bottom end. could the throttle body be dirty creating this low bottom end?

tacorunner87 01-29-2009 08:31 PM

Re: b18b into 94 hatch high idle and no bottom end power

well reading online people had said map sensor and tps plugs backwards, thats not it but i did discover when i did that car ran like crap. but i did not get a check engine light. and theres also 2 plugs on the intake manifold air temp and purge cut solenoid and that didnt give me a check engine light. so my question is does that jumper have to be jumped for me to get a check engine light?

Re: b18b into 94 hatch high idle and no bottom end power

i ordered an iacv off ebay since there to expensive from a autoparts store and i wont make it to a junkyard with me going out of town for a week. i heard a hmmm sound coming from it when i had the ignition on but engine not running. so it should be here by the time i get back next weekend ill keep u updated when i found out if that was the issue

tacorunner87 02-10-2009 09:09 PM

Re: b18b into 94 hatch high idle and no bottom end power

i replaced the iacv with the one off ebay i think the idle dropped once it warmed up hard to tell with the exhaust leak. so i plan to get a new exhaust next week.

Re: b18b into 94 hatch high idle and no bottom end power

well got the exhaust done today, started to think on my way home about very little bottom end and high idle. popped the hood and looked the throttle body is off an automatic were my ecu is for a manual. could that be creating my issue?
