B18B with GSR tranny a disappointment...?
Hell Yes!!!
Went back to the strip after the 8 hour install from hell, and lets just say i wanted to drive the car into a tree on the way home....
First some background on the car and setup i run at the track:
95 Civic EX
(estimated weight- 2360 w/o 200lb driver)
No AC or PS, stripped of all soundeadening
96 LS motor/ 99 GSR tranny
Stock clutch
Stock intake and header
2.25" custom exhaust
15" Slipstreams on 195/50/15 Kumhos set at 16psi front/ 44psi rear
Horrible camber...
Stripped this stuff out before i went:
Rear seats and plastics
Passengerside seat
Rear strutbar
Seatbelts (except driverside)
Spare tire, etc.
Front and rear bumper supports
Rear bumper cover (wind resistance)
The GSR tranny feels much better, but did not perform as i thought it would (atleast a tenth off)...
Car# 2734 in all cases
Here's a run with the LS tranny:
65 degrees
low humidity
32' above sealevel
Here's the GSR tranny:
70 degrees
moderate humidity
32' above sealevel
Big improvement, huh...!?
Oh well, i guess we all take some lumps at one time or another. Time to stop playing around and get a damn turbo...

Re: B18B with GSR tranny a disappointment...? (97hb)
I like my LS tranny, when racing the other guy shifts before me
I really thought that since the GSR does'nt drop off in rpm like the LS does between shifts, that i would have stood a better chance of lowering my ET's. Guess i was wrong...

give the motor some ******* power, then expect improvements. 140hp aint gona cut it, 90mph wont get you more than high 14's guaranteed.
sorry to break it to u harshly
and the only way ur gona get into the 14's is on slicks because 2.1 60's on street tires is DAMN GOOD!

Re: B18B with GSR tranny a disappointment...? (bretx0r)
I have the exact same setup, well close 95 LS motor, 2000 GSR tranny, ITR flywheel, ITR catback. No intake or header
All in a 92 dx hatch. It's daily driven and i drive in the following form when on the street. No A/C, no p/s, no tar, no firewall mat, no heater and a/c cores behind dash, no back seats, no spare , no jack or tools, removed rear seat belts and i don't usually have garbage in my car (people overlook it but you might have tons of useless **** in the car )
I haven't been to the track yet, but i have G-teched my car. It was VERY disappointing. I ran a 15.3@96mph. However, i raced an EF that does high 14s, we were neck to neck all the way up to 180 km/h. There were no **** ups in anybodys driving, we both launched great, no mis shifts, etc. Another one is, a friend of mine has a b16a in a Si hatch (93) with i/h/e. It's a driver's race. He ran 14.7 at the track. I usually take him, it's my launch. If i don't launch it right there is no point, if i do i usually take him by a fender in most cases or we are dead even. Another one is a friend's prelude that ran 15.1 with a CAI (it's a 2000 SH), i took him by about 1-2 cars (multiple runs).
I most likely will be dissapointed when i go to the track but i am still going to hope for high 14's, if worse comes to wrose i will power shift too. At least 3rd going into 4th, because that's where my setup kills me the most on the street. I usually lead majority of the way and everybody makes their way to me when i go into 4th because they are still in like 2nd gear in vtec (remember this is short gearing, VERY short gearing). Anyway good luck, what are your future plans with the car anyway?

Re: B18B with GSR tranny a disappointment...? (1.8 HB)
I used to have a '93 cx w/ a '98 ls motor in it. I also went w/ the gsr tranny upgrade and was a little dissapointed w/ it.
When accelerating from like 3000rpms, it felt noticably faster in all gears, but when you would do a run from 1st to 5th, it never felt like it made a big difference.
It seemed like if you ran a gear all the way to redline, when you shifted, it would place you about your peak power.
Anyway, after I installed nitrous on my car, I wished I would have stuck with the ls tranny, because(w/ the gsr) 4th gear maxed out at 100mph.
So if you ever plan to trap higher than 100mph, you will be using all 5 gears (shifting 4 times in the 1/4 mile sucks )

How much do you think running drag radials (Not slicks, Don't think my clutch could handle those) would help...?

So, me being the cheap bastard that i am. I have to buy local. I hate paying for shipping on "larger" items. So, i emailed another H-T board member (local) and he happened to have a 99 GSR tranny with 15k on it for only $200 more than i sold my tranny for. I jumped on it and this is where i am today...
Told you it was long...

I don't think you are being harsh, it's the truth. But, all i was shooting for was a 14.99999999...lol. I was'nt expecting like mid 14's or anything. I'm pretty realistic about that stuff...
