B18b...add oil sprayers? sleeve the block? add girdle?? wtf
Hey everyone,
So I have a 95 integra as a donor car for my 93 del sol. I'm planning on taking the LS block and other components required for the full swap. I was planning on swapping the pistons, rods and changing the head...maybe a b16? I then looked at the differences between the LS and GSR blocks. I just want to know if i need the sparayers or not? some say yes and some say no, I plan on using as a summer toy/drag for fun no endurance so is it safe to say I wont need? Also, I've read that the girdle from the GSR block and be placed in the LS block...is this neccessary/beneficial?? and finally I was planning on sleeving the block since I'm going to have it apart anyways and figure if i'm gonna do it I might as well do it not. Which now brings the question if I'm going to sleeeve the block are the oil srayers and girdle efective/required? I'm only looking for 350-400whp and will be using FI. I know theres no way to make it completely reliable but if the engine does blow up I wanna make sure its not because of a crappy build that could have been avoided bay adding some of the mentioned items. and off topic how achievable is 350-400whp with FI on a B18b and whats the best compression ratio to achieve this?
Thanks and sorry about the super long post!!

Also forgot to ask....if I do sleeve the block I'll loose heat discipation wich makes the oil srayers seem like a good idae, but with the right forged pistons would that be insignificant?
Thanks again

You really dont need to sleeve it for that low of a hp goal! I have a stock internal gsr putting down 378WHP with a bad map sensor. I have seen others break 400 easily on stock sleeves. If it is just a weekend toy/drag car set your goal higher and start out on lower boost level then work your way up. You will be suprised how fast you will get bored with it at least I was with mine! Just my .02

I say If you have an extra 1000 dollars laying around to sleeve an LS Block then why not just buy a gsr bottom end.

if your staying with oem pistons you need the sprayers, after market you dont.
for only 400 hp use your stock sleeves they are for good for up 500 hp

Because the only difference between the gsr bottom and LS bottom are the girdle and sprayers, so if I dont need them after I swap the pistons I'd rather spend the money on sleeves (since I already have the LS block) for the added safety and incase I decide to go for more power in the future.

Thats not the only difference BTW. Stock gsr is going to out perform the ls anyday. Think about the rod to stroke ratio is way better in a gsr. The crank is much stronger. Also the oil sprayers help more than you think
