Default b18b/93 del sol won't start - good spark, getting fuel, timing is set

ok here's the problem. i have good spark, getting fuel, timing is set but car won't start. it turns over and will start if i hold the gas pedal to the floor but dies in a matter of a couple of seconds. i have good compression, the head is in perfect condition....been pressure checked etc. i have checked the iacv and many other sensors and all of my ground points have good grounds. anybody have any ideas?

What car?

Does the engine start with starter fluid?

Do all injectors spray fuel when the engine is cranking?

its a 93 del sol with b18b. head has crower 404s and crower dual springs and retainers. all injectors spray and i haven't tried starter fluid. but i definitely will try it as soon as the rain stops cuz i don't want to run through it to get to the garage

If all injectors spray fuel, then that's fine.

Are the cylinders possibly flooded with fuel?

What were your compression numbers?

Is spark bright white at all 4 spark plugs?

Can you post pictures of your cams and crank positioned at TDC1?

Are any CEL codes thrown?

What ECU and wire harnesses?

cylinders aren't flooded and compression is 170 across. and the plugs should be good but i will double check again and i can get pictures up in the a.m. when i go out there again. it actually has a b16 ecu because it had a b16 head on it until i decided to go all ls and it still has the harness for vtec

i have a friend with a b16 ecu on his hatch with ls motor and his seems to be a non issue.....but cars are different and this could be a variable....how likely is it the ecu could be the problem?

Post the spark quality and CEL codes when you have this information.

spark is a pinkish color so i am going to change the plugs out tomorrow morning. cel light didn't flash when i jumped it so i'm guessing a bad ground even though i checked my grounds and also at thermostat housing. maybe a more thorough cleaning for the grounds?

That's weak spark and is likely the cause of your problem. This is not generally caused by bad spark plugs, but rather a bad coil or sometimes igniter unit. You can resistance test the coil (see FAQs sticky), but have an auto parts store test the igniter unit.

cel light didn't flash when i jumped it
Did the CEL just remain on steady?

Aftermarket distributor? Those often come bad out of the box. It's always best to buy an OEM distributor.

You have weak spark, so test the coil and ICM. Also measure voltage on the Blk/Yel wire attached to the coil and ICM.

jus put the new plugs in and still no start, it tried at first then nothing. going to check the coil and icm next.

primary is reading at .7 ohms and i'm not getting a reading on the secondary. i'm also not getting a volt ready at all on the ICM

You read the internal resistance of your multimeter by touching the two probes together. Subtract the internal resistance from the 0.7 Ohm reading. What are you left with?

and i'm not getting a reading on the secondary.
Set the multimeter on the 20K Ohm scale for this measurement. Don't worry about internal resistance here.

With the key in ON(II), what voltage do you read at the Blk/Yel wire attached to the coil?

not exactly following what you're saying.

cheapo multimeter it doesn't have a 20k ohm setting

if i did it right it looks like 14.2

Post a clear picture of your multimeter.

Are the Ohm and voltage tests done with all wires disconnected from the coil and ICM? See diagram in FAQs sticky.

Battery voltage should not be higher than about 12.5V, so I think there's a problem with your voltage reading.

i was reading it wrong....i bumped the meter from volts to ohms.........i haven't been able to get an accurate reading on the voltage anywhere.
the ohm and voltage tests are being done with everything disconnected
i will post up some pictures as soon as i can

i even tried to get a voltage reading under the dash at the fuse panel and couldn't get a reading there either

Also describe how you are making the Ohm and voltage measurements.

That's fine. Post a picture of your multimeter. What are you using as ground for your voltage tests?
