B18A1 Vs. B18B1
can someone please tell me the pros and cons of having either one. I know for sure im going to swap my ek soon from the y7 to a b series, i dont want vtec tho i wanna go boost, is there a difference in these to LS engines? or is it just the years?

Re: (BadKid)
what do you mean you dont want vtec you want boost??? I hope you dont mean you want to go turbo so you think ls is better do you? Or do you just want to go LS turbo for dif. reasons

Re: (00b20vtecoupe)
I believe the heads are different, as well as the cams. The B makes 140hp while the A makes 130. From my experience, the A is slightly more torquey/midrange while the B makes more hp higher up. I went with the B for my hatch and love it.

They are pretty much the same, i dont see why it would matter, especially if its going to be boosted, you will need to convert to obd1 anyways, i like the b18b1 just because they probably have less miles

ive driven my friends 93 gs and my 01 ls teg definitely has more torque even tho his GS has the shorter LS tranny. b18b1 definitely

true you will need to convert to obd1, but that's just the harness conversion, i'm talking about dealing it with alternator, distributor, etc since it's an ek civic, you can't use obd1 engine harness.

Ls trannys are the longest b series tranny you can get

You do if its boosted.

The oldest a1 heads flow significantly less than the later b1 heads. Anything after 93, I believe, is the same.
A1 also has a different crank pulley...ps pump is different on the a1.
Other than that, theyre essentially the exact same thing.

i was just wondering because at Battle of the Imports here in seattle, a purple EK won the with a stock b18A1 boosted, he hit 12's . I asked him why the B18A1 and he said it was better, he didnt explain his reasoning.
