B18 Swap revs to redline when started
Hi guys I'm new to Hondas I just installed a b18 swap into a 92 EG everything is plugged in the right place but as soon as I start the car it wants to redline any idea why this is happening? I already checked the TPS I had my brother start the car while I was looking at the throttle body it was closed so idk why it wants to shoot through the roof.

Re: PLEASE HELP!!!
My buddy had this issue and he had the map and tps plugs switched, make sure they are plugged in the right sensor and not switched or it will definitely rev to the moon!

The length of the wires were really tight to switch so I'm pretty sure they were right how I had them but I tried it and the same thing happened

Did you at any point change, remove TPS and then reinstall it. If the internal arm on the TPS doesn't line up within the holder slot for the throttle body plate it will cause this condition. The TPS is the only thing that dictates to the ecu what angle the throttle is at causing the described redline condition. If map and TPS are swapped it would go into limp mode not redline, vacuum leak would cause idle to hunt up and down.

Also you said it was a swap so TPS could have been changed by previous owner. Make sure they didn't put a TPS from a sohc with the flat intake. They are easy to come by but don't work with vertical intake on b&d and can cause this issue too.

The only way it can rev that high with the throttle plate closed is for something to let a lot of air into the engine, via a path other than the throttle plate.

True, the tps would just dump fuel in there and it would start spitting out fuel. Since the only entry for air is through the intake manifold op needs to get up on that and investigate.

A TPS that is installed wrong or faulty would cause this. The TPS controls throttle response, even with throttle plate closed if it is faulty or incorrectly installed it can go to redline. Don't believe me try doing it for yourself and you will see, the iacv and the throttle plate are not fully closed at idle air is still getting in. What else in the vehicle controls throttle or engine speed????? Nothing but TPS.

Re: B18 Swap revs to redline when started
There just isn't enough air to sustain a rev limit RPM without a significant air leak. I'm not saying his TPS is installed correctly, but the car is not going to redline without air, and if the throttle body is indeed closed, there has to be a vacuum leak somewhere on the intake manifold or TB.

This is a big leak like having parts that simply don't mate up (TB to IM, IM to head, etc), or the brake booster hose not connected at all.

OP you just need to look over your work, you're not giving enough details and we're not there to see for ourselves wtf is missing, incorrect or wrong.
