b18 ls for 175, what do yous think?
so a buddy of mine has to b18 motors, 1 built and 1 ls so hes sellin me the ls for 175 but he says the crankshaft is a little rough cause where the bearings are supposed to be they were almost gone. do you guys think its worth it? could i get the crank fixxed somehow? if i get it id prolly replaced all the seals bearings and rings too. so let me know! and how much would a tranny be for that? thanks!

hmm im not quite sure lol its out of a 92 ls.
i was gonna build a n/a mini-me, but i figured if for the same amount i could get a b18 in i might as well do it right? prolly throw some performance parts in there too

well if its a 92ls then its a b18a and if you were gonna put new bearings and rings in then you will need to get the crank done anyways. what kinda car is it going in and what kinda plans do you have. ie. turbo all motor or just a daily. that can help determine what tranny to go with.

i had my bearing go in my motor and well now my motor is gone. It trashed the whole thing. I know you said that you are only getting it 4 175 but if the bearings are gone gone then you might have a small problem so, if you can you might want to check that out.

werd, if it's a complete or mostly complete longblock with just a bad crank/bearings then buy it, and replace the above.

yeah thats pretty good. i didn't think of that. you putting it in a hatch as a dd then get a gsr tranny. i think you will like it alot more than a mini-me. just my .02 though. plus you can go ls/vtec

Re: Re: (ltrkstr2k)
its a complete longblock with just bad bearings and a small section of the crank is a lil rough?? how much would that cost to fix? also how much do yous think the whole swap would run me?
lol i wanna get it and build it over winter and drop in for the spring!
i was thinking something like
block with hi-comp pistons
b16 vtec head
the axles which run me like 115$ brand new
ecu
distributor
and ls/vtec kit
and tranny with shift linkage
what else am i missing??
id like to do it since if i buy the block im getting it legal with papers
but if not ill just build up my puney d15b7
into a n/a mini-me

Re: Re: (jaydmjay)
im guessing the motor is already opened up if you know the crank is bad. if you buy most of it for 175 then the expensive parts are gonna be the vtec head and the tranny. so you add 400-800 on the head depending on what you find and 350-500 on the tranny. it will add up but it will be oh so worth it in the end.

if i did the sohc build my dad would be helpin me since its much easier and hes put them together before but he dont wanna emss around with dohcs lol
d15b7 block
p28 pistons
probe i-beam rods for all motor
d16z6 or y8 head
skunk 2 cam and camgear
skunk2 valve train or jge with ti retainers
and a p28 ecu chipped by skunk2 to set vtec off at 4400??
not to mention everything in it would be brand new seals, bearings, rings everything

Re: Re: (jaydmjay)
ls/vtec is just like doing a mini me well kinda. i just swapped in a 95 b18 into my 97 coupe and a friend of mine did a mini me on his 99 coupe. we did both at the same time and my ls pulls alot harder than his does. he has a skunk 2 manifold, ls throttle body, i/h/e and his vafc set at 4800rpms. but its your car your build. don't let anybody tell you what to do.

Re:
I have bought 2 LS blocks and Im going on my third soon.
To machine the block (light hone, deck, hot tank) - $150
To balance the crank (check journals, micropolish) - $150 (Laskey Racing - Benson)
ACL bearings $100
Gasket kits from Chapman Honda (water pump and gaskets) - $170
Rear main seal from sonsacuraparts.com - $20 or so
Rods/Pistons/Rings - $300+ (maybe type-r)
Vtec head - $500+
Trans (LS/B16/GSR/TypeR) - $250-1k
LSV kit (Golden Eagle) - $250 (sandwich plate, tap, lines, hg, dowels)
Clutch/Flywheel - $???
The list will go on and on and on and on. This still doesnt include the dizzy, random hoses, plugs, wires and any other little thing that will nickel and dime you to death

Re: Re: (95ProjectEJ1)
you just have to shop around and look for the best deals. 9 times out of 10 as soon as you buy something or decide on something it will show up better somewhere else. and try to get things complete. look for complete vtec heads that include dizzy's manifolds rails blah blah blah. if you don't your gonna end up spending even more.
