Re: b16b rebuild (geebs)
well i did a compression test and it was about 200-210 and it should be around 240 so we did a wet test and i got 240 in all cylinders so that means new rings would fix that and the b16b is a type r....

new rings will just require you to basically drop the bottom end out of it.... if you have a lift it can be done quite easily.

The head bolts. you dont need to pull the head to drop the pistons... just take off the oil pan and do it that way. nothing hold the pistions from the top its all from the bottom.... otherwise it wouldnt move.

Re: b16b rebuild (b16bswap)
im comfused. im a mechanic and if u asked me 200psi is alsome. id be more worried if u get down to 150 or 100. does it burn oil? correct me if im wrong but there is a stop at the bottom of the cylider that cannot be removed so u couldnt drop the pistons from the bottom even if u wanted to.

yes i have rebuilt many motors not only just hondas. if your not experienced in rebuilding a motor, but mechanicly inclined i would say get a chilton book and not a haynes one and follow there every instructions. you can leave the motor and trany in when rebuilding if your not boring the cylinders or turning the crank. ive done it on a d series before and took a small flat head screw diver and taped the main bearings out but dont nick the crank. it has over 20k on rebuild 170 on car wit only manuly honing the cylinder walls.

you pulled the pistons and rods from the bottom? how did you get the pistons back in? what type of ring compressor did you use for this operation? do you have pics? something id like to see.. especially on a vtec block with oil squirters in there..
for the op:
as far as pulling the pistons... id remove the head.. which requires removing the intake and exhaust manifolds.. removing the valve cover and then the cam caps and cams.. this will get you access to the head bolts.. you should replace them.. id recommend the $100 on ARP head studs.. vs the $10 or so per head bolt from honda. then remove the oil pan and rod caps and push the rods/pistons up and out of the cylinder

this is refering to GEEBS. if you think thats what i said then reread the post. the other guy said to pull from the pistons from the bottom. i said its inpossible to pull it from the bottom.

my bad i was thinking about a diff motor i rebuilt and dropped out of the bottom. the oil quirters are removable though as i had to remove them when i rebuilt my b16. i this case the compression doesnt sound too bad so i dont see why he needs to rebuild it.

grant97teg, i wasnt referring to you.. i just clicked on your name to send a reply.. was meant for 93egsleeper.. by the way its not impossible.. its just pointless to pull the pistons from the bottom

Re: b16b rebuild (geebs)
unless im mistaken wich im pretty sure im not. at the bottom of the cylinder there is a approx 1/4 lip sticking out and is not removable at least on the coulple of d serries and b serries ive rebuilt. and the crank is bolted to the flywheel wich mounts to the tranny. maby you can slide pass the crank but good luck trying to get the piston and rings back up in the cylinder.
im new to this but this is what im talking about at the bottom of the cylinder
