b16b with buddy club spec iv cams

Default b16b with buddy club spec iv cams

hi everyone, hoping you can help - i've searched but couldnt find any answers...

does anyone have any experience of buddyclub spec iv cams in a b16b - are they too aggressive to gain good power ie would the compression be too low?

just trying to decide what setup to go with in my civic

my motor didnt like them i had issue's with the cam i pulled them for skunk2 pro 's never had so much power i even rand jun cams befor the skunk's idle was the worst skunks are the best cams for it if u ask me!

thanks for the feedback guys - what issues did you have with the spec iv cams?
i'm using them in a b16a2 currently and im going to swap the engine out im just trying to decide whether to go b16b or to use a b18 bottom end with ek9 pistons

TPR did an article on them a while back, they claim that when used in conjuntction with a buddy thin hg and flat face valves they got 30+whp, honda-tech user guellotine (&lt;--- i prolly spelled that wrong) says he was there for that dyno and can vouch for the cams, i believe he also has a set in his b16b and loves them last time i saw him post...

Buddy Club Spec IV cams require a minimum of 12:1 compression to get any power out of them. Putting them in a stock B18C5 or a B16B will do nothing really helpful. You would need a semi built motor.

makes sense, thats prolly they tpr used the thin hg and flat face valves, that must have put them in the 11.4-11.6:1, what do you think of the tpr claim of 30+whp?

I think it is legit as long as the Compression was over 12:1. I think to get the most out of these cams you should have a minimum of 12.5:1. These cams can make power all the way to 10,000 RPM's as long as you have the compression to do so. I like the Buddy Club cams because the power band is nice and smooth. Not like Skunk or other manufacturers who's curves make all the power after VTEC. It all depends on the driver and what they prefer.

I am actually trying to duplicate that build as we speak...the head is at Port Flow right now getting a pnP with a 3 angle...the rest of the parts are sitting in my car wating on the head to return.

I will post back with some numbers hopefully by Thursday of next week.

If you built your b18 bottom with CTR pistons then the BC spec iv will be beneficial. Your CR would be good for them. I think 12.8:1 if you keep your PR3 head.

where did you hear that. The effective range is more like 11.2:1 to 12.6:1. I have seen gains all throught that band.

In the all motor forum there are plenty of LS/V making good power without 12:1 compression...however it is agreed that the stock compression from a 1.6 is not going to cut it

Will do, I'm pretty excited about it...its been a long time coming. I really wish i knew what header they used in that article but it wasnt stated. I wont be able to get my TODA for another couple of weeks so JDM ITR it is...however i noticed in the article that the dint do a PnP just a valve job so we shal see where we are next week.

thanks for the input guys, i guess thats what i expected, running them in the b16 just now is giving me about 145 atw but the b18 bottom end and ek9 pistons seems to be the way to go i just wished id had the cash to do it all at the same time!

Well went to Churches yesterday. Pretty happy with the results. Not quite the 191 that TPR says but Shawn seems to think that with a better header and intake manifold i can hit 190's easily. Dont know how to post pictures...never needed to know until now but i will give it a try, if it doesnt work the link will be below. Any how here is the link sorry for the black and white i scanned it at work and they do not have a color scanner.
