B16B Block but what Crankshaft is THIS?

B16B Block but what Crankshaft is THIS?
So my friend purchases an ek9 R civic only to have it knock 2wks later
I remove sump pull bearing caps number 2 conrod spun to a sheet of paper
Immediately we start trying to source a b16b crank as I disassemble the block
and research honda b series engines I realise something isn't right
P30 pistons ?? Pr3 Rods where's the pct's and p72 rods
At this point I now know these rods would never fit a b16b crankshaft so I'm thinking maybe b18c
However tried a comparison of a b16b crank set in the block and its
contacting with the oil squirters now i'm really like WTF...
Get another b16b just to verify whats going on crank identical and contacting same point on squirters. I'm guessing b16a crank or b18c but why would anyone put a b16a crank in a b16b lost in hondas world of b series how deep does this hole go.
Now I really need to know a few things what crank could this possibly be and why would squirters in a b16b block contact a b16b crank ???

Re: B16B Block but what Crankshaft is THIS?
So now I know the B18c's and B16B share the same big end rod width so that rules out fitting a pr3 to a 16b or 18c so anyone have pics or can confirm if this is indeed a 16a or lsvtec crank
Thanks
Thanks

Wow. You need to go knock the person's head off who you bought that "B16B" from. They hand stamped those numbers on the block!!! You just got a B16A that some jackass ground down the pad and stamped B16B on! No BS. You just got screwed bad. That is a B16A all day long.

For future reference, this is what Honda's block stamping looks like. NOTICE the B16B is a LOT larger than yours. NOTICE that the numbers below are actually somewhat straight and it does not appear that a drunk stamped it in.

^^ Beat me too it.....i have had a couple B16B over the years, yours is fake, the stamping was done at home.
btw, a B16B, GSR and Type R alll use the same block!!! It should be stamped at the back of the block at the bottom, that it is a P72....they ALL are!

The engine also has the wrong throttle body. The one you have is a 1st gen with map sensor on top of it.....that's from an OBD0 car, it's also the smallest b series TB made at only 58mm, instead of the 62mm found on Type R version...which use an external map sensor.

Re: B16B Block but what Crankshaft is THIS?
DAMN if this was my R..... I can't even tell my boy he already paid too much for it then it knocked and now this.
Thanks a lot for the info though Ryan and deetz
Now what would you do?
Have access to a b16b block crank and can source the rods pop in the ctr pistons
Or build a b16a with ctr pistons
Any options and help much thanks

Re: B16B Block but what Crankshaft is THIS?
I'd go after the seller 1st off!!!
2nd, find a gsr block, it'll make more power....1.8L = more torque!!!

Re: B16B Block but what Crankshaft is THIS?
Will do in just that order
So as far as head and cams if I post some pics can we confirm type r or not
Also I checked the ecu it has pct in the code so assumin its b16b
So also change out that throttle body.

Re: B16B Block but what Crankshaft is THIS?
If you can show us pics of the distributor ends of the cams, we can tell you what they are. We need clear pics of the machined grooves as that is what determines what cams they are. The date stamp on the head should be a good determining factor as to whether or not it's a CTR head. If you have a head with a production date of 1991, it's not...

Re: B16B Block but what Crankshaft is THIS?
Ok will post cam pics tomorrow back of head says 99 also pr3-2
intake says pct-01
If funds are limited and gsr bottom half not available
b16b bottom end or b16a w/ctr pistons and fully balanced??

Re: B16B Block but what Crankshaft is THIS?
You need to remember that a B16B shares the same deck height as a GSR/ITR. It's not normal B16A deck height (which is shorter). I'd either just rebuild the B16A back to stock again or find a cheap GSR short and rebuild it. If it's spun a bearing, don't just half *** it and try to do new bearings. That metal is still floating around and it will not make new bearings happy. Completely disassemble engine, have the block cleaned, disassemble oil pump and clean/check clearances. It needs to be surgical clean when it goes back together if you want it to last.

Re: B16B Block but what Crankshaft is THIS?
I completely agree I don't even like the thought of cutting cranks for oversized bearings. I agree clean quality build no room for error at 9000rpm
What I was trying to say is I have access to a genuine b16b block crank and rods which I would rebuild and use current head so I was trying to get an opinion as to would it be so much a better street performer as opposed to obtaining a replacement b16a crank and rebuilding the block which was removed from the car whilst adding ctr pistons and fully balancing rotating mass
So thats just a reference ques as to recommended options b16b vs b16a basically .
As was noted small throttle body would be replaced with 68mm unit.
