There is a face plate on the block that says what kinda motor it is 3 gs isn't that bad just 200k miles are a lot
And a3 isn't really in difference from a2 and up ( I have a a3 swap atm )
Edit : face plate is on passenger side front side on the motor kinda by the tranny code as well

$3,000 is a decent price. but with over 200k miles you can expect problems later especially since he hasn't rebuilt it or anything. but you may want to do that yourself anyways.
good luck with the new honda!

200,000 miles doesn't mean the engine will blow up on you or anything, but it's not mint.
I have a Prelude with 260k on it and when I got it I was getting 13-16mpg when I should have been closer to 23-25mpg. Tune up parts, stock exhaust (had bad bad muffler/b-pipe) and finally some oxygen sensors put the car back to not only good gas mileage, but the car recovered from the apparent huge loss of power.
The car really did just need some TLC. So far the very closest this Prelude has gotten to "engine work" is a valve cover gasket and tube seals. lol
Be warned this is not always the case though. My car was a gift and not my only available mode of transportation. I was more than happy to drop a couple grand into making the car run well and correctly.
Check for the engine code, check that it looks as stock as possible in the engine bay ghetto means it's probably not stock) and drive it. If anything seems off, it's okay. You're not obligated to buy it. Just walk away and wait for the right deal.
