I call that the GSi engine, put some boost and you're set

The only reason the B18B is known for better turbocharging is because of its lower compression pistons. If you take the B18C and swap out its higher compression pistons for some forged lower compression pistons then you'll make more power than the B18B and you'll have the benefit of VTEC and its oil squirting system.

Would that set up be better than just boosting a B18C1 engine? I'm still new to this stuff....

And what would the difference be in speed with a boosted B16A vs. a boosted B18C1? thanks

Okay first step do a archived search on these engines. Ton of info, trust me I've been reading it myself. Now in my experience the b16a isn't worth in a ek, you already have a 1.6 liter in there why do you want another one for 2500. Now you want to turbo the engine right. Both b18c and b18b are great for turboing. A higher compression ratio engine will make more power then a low comp one will so forget that idea. The big reason is money. The b18b swap is like 2000 while the b18c is 3300. That 1300 goes towards your turbo kit. Now you have to ask yourself a question. Do stay on top of your maintainence? Be real truthfull to yourself. If you are go with the b18c and and tune the sh*t out of it. If not go with the b18b. Hey if you blow it up its like 500 to get a replacement. These comments are if you really are going to turbo either engine.

Skunk2 has done some flow tests on the B16A and B18C head and found the B16A head flows much better than the B18C. In fact Honda uses the b16A head on its Type R engines, its just been ported polished and fitted with stronger valvetrain components and that's one of the reasons why you can take a Type R intake manifold and bolt it up to the B16A head and not the B18C. Anyhow the B18C head would probably give you more HP and Torque over the B16A so it'll be faster.

Try again.

The B18C1 will outpower the B18B by a nice margin when turboing both motors.

Just because the B18B has lower CR doesn't mean that it's better for boost.

Define better.

Is better having a shittier head in flow characteristics? Is better putting down way less power?

Maybe your definition of better means that the B18B is cheaper and a *little* easier to keep from blowing if you're a tuning retard, but in the end the GS-R will ruin the B18B's day.

Why waste the money on forged pistons and rods? I've never understood why people automatically asume that you must do this to have a reliable set-up...especially when they use that money for that bullshit rather than on a good engine management set-up.

TUNING makes turbos work. It will make more power and run safer than ghetto tuning with forged rods and pistons.

My opinion?

Get the B18C1. If your plans are interrupted then you'll have the fastest near-stock motor from that group hands down.

No comparision.

I've owned the B16A2 (still have one in the 1992 Si hatch) and a B18C1 in my old 1992 Si hatch and the B16A2 cannot compare at any rpm range.

150whp and 122 ft/lbs. or torque from the B18C1 ruined the 143whp and weak-*** 102ft/lbs. of torque from the B16A2.

Oh by the way buddy - what the hell is that link in there for? Put it in your sig or something, because I clicked that thinking it might actually have something to do with THE TOPIC AT HAND especially since you posted it two times.

Go with an ls and save some cash on making ur engine able to boost more and the ls long gears are good with turbo setups.
