Default B16A2 Turbo Choice

Hey everyone,

I have a simple question. I have a 97 civic with a B16A2 mainly sock, with skunk 2 cams, hondata s300, dc sport 4-1 headers.

Would the stock piston and valvetrain hold a turbo, and what psi?

What horsepower and torque would i safely gain?

I am eventually looking to get 500 to 600 hp out of this b16a2.
Is it possible?

And does anyone know of the best one for a stock b16a2, i will be doing internals and valvetrain in the future.

ANy help is apreciated.

57 trim 48.A.R, 57 trim 60 A.R, 57 trim 63 A.R. This is mainly for Garret T3/T04E turbos. Find some GSR cams or straight turbo cams to make better power than those skunks you have. With good tuning you can throw alot of boost at a B16. 10-14psi is the most I would run on 93 Octane.

You can make 200whp - 220 (call it a safe zone) on stock internals. I've heard of somebody running 240whp on stock internals on a B16a2 daily driver but I haven't verified it yet.

Any higher than that and you'll need to start reinforcing internals.

You shouldn't need to touch the valve train unless you want to increase the revving limit. You can use the stock limit and just do block work and you can get to 600whp easy.

I think you're prolly looking at 280 - 320HP on the stock block.

Not even close, I can verify that for you all day long. Hp is all in the tune and a rock stock unmolested B16 can hold 300 all day long, Wade on here has been making for like 380whp for a couple of years on his original headgasket.

Amount of boost doesn't matter whatsoever either, boost will create different power levels at the same psi depending on the compressor used. The best way to make power is to use a large turbo at a lower level of boost and have the car tuned by a reputable tuner and drive it with some sense and you will be fine.

A built B16 can explode at 200whp if you have an idiot on the laptop, just find someone good and have at it.

And in the end, if you want to make over 500whp like you say, then realize it needs to be sleeved. You can't just throw pistons and rods in on a stock block and valvetrain and expect that level of power.

I had no idea the stock internals of the B16 could handle 400whp worth of boost.

Alright.

Oh yeah man, it's all about timing and fuel control

He is making that out a megasquirt ems, I wouldn't go that far on anything less than a full standalone but it can be done

With Crome or Hondata, I would still feel good a 350 or so. I have seen several 300whp ones come out of our local shop though with stock internals.

This is pretty correct, except the most psi id recomend on the stock block is 10. Deffinetly go with GSR cams, keep your Hondata, and get a good tuner to tune you car once you have your kit on. With a good kit, good tune and 10psi, 300 is very achievable.

There we are again. Do not make recomendations on PSI, a t3-super60 straight T3 turbo at 10 lbs will flow less, create more heat, and generally be much weaker than say a SC6176E with a .63 a/r and a 61mm compressor wheel.

The T3 setup absolutely perfect would make 250 whp on a good day with optimum weather and tune. The SC61 setup would probably break 300whp easily at the same boost level.

Now, hopefully that will help you understand the difference between hp and PSI and realize the saying "only run x psi" makes little to no sense since it is irrelevant to the limit of the motor.

Estimates have no place in a tech forum, estimates will blow other peoples cars up.
