Default B16a2 sluggish and vtec kicks hard

one of my friends has a 97 civic with a b16 in it and has had it in it for awhile . and ever since he put the motor in it has been sluggish all the way up to 5500 then vtec kicks in hard. the vtec may be normal because this is first b16 i have messed with but i know that when he is floored and it take forever to get to 5500 in every gear something aint right...

he has a ecu which is XXX-p2p-XXXX which is a 96-00 ecu

is it wrong ecu or something else.... also seen this...

maybe thats whats wrong...
i will try it on car tomorrow if thats the problem but its late here now.... anyone with same problem please chime in

thanks in advance

wrong ECU

Should be running P2T or get a jumper harness and get a tuned or chiped P28 or a P08

just chip a p28 and get a jumper harness so you can get it tuned in the future

It's a dual cam. If it's a single cam then it isn't a b series

well since you have a b16 either get a obd2a to obd2b harness to a p2t ecu which is the 99 00 civic si stock ecu OR get a step down harness to a jdm p30 ecu if you can find one or just get a chipped p28 or your preferred ecu and get it tune asap
