In terms of the engine long block itself. It is basically the same as a manual except for the head. I heard the manual has a little more agressive cam and retainers. I could be wrong...but to me they are basically the same. As for wires and changing from an auto to a manual tranny and wires...Yes. VEry .. VEry much...I'm doing the project myself...i'll do a huge write up after I finish the swap...I am about 90% done.

Isnt the motor the exact same as the manual one but just with a different tranny?

Thats how it is with most engines with auto tranny and manual tranny. The motor is damn near exactly the same.

All Autos are usually de-tune compare to manuals. Get a manual ECU for sure.

Might be talking out of my ***, but the fuel mapping is different. Dumps more fuel in. I got better gas mileage plus VTEC differences. Do the swap completely.

Actually, there is quite a difference between manual 2nd gen B16A's and auto B16A's. The auto B16A's have weaker cams, lower redlines, and instead of having dual intake valvesprings it has single.

(the B16A2, like the author of the post, is a USDM Civic Si engine)

Cheers for those replys,

So the auto b16a's still have same pistons and have 10.4 compression if they are second generation JDM? Does anyone know how much power the detuned auto variant puts out? Ive searched the net and havnt heard anything said of this auto variant.

I can vouch for the auto's having less agressive cams...

But is the compression still 10.4? I have one as a replacement to my JDM b16a1 (160hp), and according to the gtech its got slightly more pull than that. So if its de-tuned to the 170hp JDM b16a2 it mustn't be de-tuned much. Getting aftermarket cam's in there is probably my next move.

When identifying the auto variant from the manual, what do you look for?

Does PR3-2 on head mean anything?

thanks.
