B16A2 into 96 CIVC CX hatch(PROBLEMS)
hey guys,
i need help...
i put a B16A2 engine into my 96 cx...
now i got problems ~~~
engine light is on...
and ~ when i plug in the scanner, it says NO COMMUNICATION...
oh ya... i'm miss one plug that goes into the ECU...
i think that's why the scanner can't communicate with the ECU...
the car ran ok for like 4 month...
then i parked it over the summer...
now it runs funny... sometimes it doesn't start...
sometimes it will just stall ~___~
i'm guessing something's up with the ECU...
because after i reset ECU... it runs ok again @___@
so... i donno... some help please ???

Re: B16A2 into EK9 (five_wang05)
If you have a EK9, then you already have a B16B.
You should see a little blue tag that says "E-EK9 Type R"
Unless you mean you have a EJ6 hatch?

I've been surfing this site for about a year or so now and I just recently started posting. Out of all the posts I've read, that remains so true. People would rather judge than help. It's so sad.
five_wang:
You're missing a plug for your ECU? Did you not get/use a complete harness or am I not reading it right? I would definitely check out the wiring to the ECU. You should have 3 complete plugs running through the firewall that connect to the top of the ECU. I think your wiring may be fubar'd. Someone with an EK help this man!
Yikes, on an unrelated matter: do I have a limit as to how many posts/replies I can make, because I think I've exceeded that tonight... too much to talk about.

Re: B16A2 into EK9 (phthalo)
there's your problem right there. your wiring is all wrong.
your b16a came out of a 2000 dx? if so, that's obd2b. your car is 1996 cx which is obd2a. who did the wiring? at the end, you should have 3 ecu plugs and 1 green plug which integrates to your dash harness. hope this helps.

Re: B16A2 into EK9 (boosted_ef)
who cares if he wants to call his hatch an ek9, get over it people.
You are running the wrong harness, you either have to convert yours or buy a new one

Re: B16A2 into EK9 (-Gambit-)
try getting a 96-98 civic ex harness and redo the wiring harness, and then get a jumper harness to go from obd2a to obd2b if you are using a 99-00 si ecu. i cant remember what website i saw it on but try to search if i come across it again i will post if for you
which motor is it? b16a2 or a DX motor?

Re: B16A2 into EK9 (JDM-97CX)
thanks to the people that actually tried to help, and not give this guy ****, im not sure if this information is correct, but here it goes.
buy a new harness possibly for your year 96-98 vtec would be hard to find, just look for a non vtec engine harness, and i believe if you look for katman's post he has the wire up for vtec and i think map sensor? could be wrong.
good luck

OK guys ~
alrite guys...
i changed the title...
i hope u guys are happy...
B16A2 into my 96 CX hatchback (MT)
i don't want to start ****...
i am only interested in how to fix the problem...
i'd like to thanks those who are actually providing me some info...
oh ya...
pb16b : the engine came out of a 2000 DX...
but the engine was originally out of a 2000 SIR
and yes i think the missing plug is suppose to come from my dash harness
cuz the 2000 DX had that 3rd plug and was able to pull codes...
but mine, (ThePest ) i am not able to pull and codes...
the check engine light is on... i jumper the wire from that blue 2 pin connector ... try to get the light to blink to get some codes... and also i tried hooking up a scanner... but the scanner wasn't able to communicate with the ECU...
kleanlscivic :
2000 SIR motor...
using 2000 SIR ECU
JDM-97CX:
my car, the engine, trans. are all MT...
i'm missing that plug but my car still runs...
@___@ it just runs...funny
but i still got VTEC and stuff
ekx4 :
thanks again man...i'll look into it....
thanks guys...
i guess this is how Honda-Tech should be...!!!
oh ya...
any ideas how to CONVERT my harness??? cuz i really would hate it if i have to change the whole thing...
i need my car !!! can't park it and redo the harness... have to get to work...
so since my car still runs... it would be great if i could just CONVERT it without having to park it for a day or 2...~~

Re: OK guys ~ (kleanlscivic)
we just fixed a similar problem for a kid around here. He had a 97 1.6el with a 99 b16 from an Sir. He was missing the plug into the ecu as well. after some research we figured it out. The difference between the obd2a and obd2b changed the located of one plug on the harness. On the origanal motor that plug is located on the engine side of the harness and with the 99 Sir that same harness is located on the body side of the harness. To fix you have to do some wiring but its fixable. pm me if you need some more info i will look up my notes from when we did it, it was a little while ago so i cant remember everything right now
